I have my first dress fitting this Saturday! I’m so excited but nervous at the same time. Was just thinking about who I should take with me. Part of me wants to go alone. Part of me wants to take my mom.I’m just not sure if I want me mom to come because I feel like she may hold me back from making decisions to make my dress perfect for me. She doesn’t want me to spend much more on alterations and such whereas I feel like I need to do whatever it takes for me to love my wedding dress even if it means spending some extra money.
Did any of you guys go alone to your first fitting? Would you suggest bringing someone with you?

I went alone because I didn’t see a reason to bring anybody. Most fittings are pretty uneventful until the final fitting when the clouds part and angels sing just knowing that your dress is done and ready for the big day. All that happened at my first fitting was pinning the sides to make my dress fit me, and pinning the bustle. I didn’t need to have a hem pinned, otherwise that would have happened too. Your seamstress will generally have a good idea of what bustle will work best for the dress.

I just went for my first fitting and I am so glad I didn’t take anyone because I made some decisions about where I wanted the dress altered that I know my mom and MOB would have had opinions on. Take your mom and friends on the last fitting so they can ow and ah and tell you how beautiful you are…

I voted to take someone, but in your case, I would go alone. I think you should take someone, but not if you think they aren’t going to be constructive to your vision. Another set of eyes is good, but if they are going to try to lay down their opinions of how it should look…no.

I will probably bring my mom to be a second pair of eyes. But in your case, that might backfire so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with going alone. Or maybe you could bring a trusted friend?

I went alone. It was no big deal. I got to make a connection with my seamstress. I went alone to the last fitting too. But I took a good friend with me to the second one, as a special moment that we both shared together.

Bring someone! I went alone and thought my dress looked okay. When I decided to show it to my mom she pointed out a few spots that looked funny. I was so excited about seeing the final product that I didn’t notice it. I had to run to a different seamstress and pay some more money to have my dress altered again!
ETA: I read that wrong and was thinking of the final dress fitting. I probably wouldn’t bring someone to the first one, but I would definitely bring someone to the second one!
