Hello bees! First of all I am sorry about the crappy picture quality, and I edited them too small etc. I will try to keep this relatively short:
I tried on my dress in a shop and fell in love with it but not the price tag. I found it being sold by a private seller online and purchased it in a size 8, that was very snug in the hips (when I had tried it on in the store) but I planned on losing weight so was comfortable with that risk. Of course I gained 10 lbs lol and when it came it didnt fit AT ALL! I couldn’t get it down over my hips and the back was inches away from even the modesty panel closing. Aside from the weight gain I had forgotton about the sample being stretched from dozens of women trying the dress on. I took the pics below as motivation to reach my weight goal!
Feel free to laugh at my pout one! I sure do LOL
I have done Weight Watchers before and succeeded and rejoined in March with FI (he’s awesome and we both needed to lose weight for health reasons not just wedding). From my heaviest I am down over 50 lbs, from the pics above to the pics below I have lost 15lbs, and still 12 lbs away from what I where I want to be but realistically I only have a month til my wedding so I will try for 7 lbs more to do it healthily.
My first fitting before alterations. I am getting length altered and the bustle done as well as cups, no other alterations:
I am really happy that the dress is fitting better but I am so dissapointed that I have the back fat and HUGE bum 🙁 (ABOUT THAT – how the heck can these last three photos look so different when taken only minutes apart)?
I am wearing my hair up and NOT wearing a veil. Altering the dress back is NOT an option, so should I get a bolero to cover up my back?? I will do what I can to tone but am worried it wont be enough as I am running out of time.
Also, should I cover my tattoo? Does it take away from the hollywood glam look I am going for? We are having a very formal wedding, with a gorgeous 1900’s ballroom reception, chandeliers, candelabras etc.
Thank you for your help bees 🙁

@SweetJester: First of all, I don’t know what you’re talking about when you say “back fat.” I don’t see any!!! And your butt looks fantastic! I think that the dress fits your perfectly. As far as losing more weight for the wedding, I agree, 7 pounds sounds like a healthy amount to lose. Make sure you drink TONS of water! Especially the week before the wedding. It’ll help you look even slimmer and drop pounds faster. (Although staying hydrated is always healthy, wedding or not.) Finally, it is up to you about the tattoo. I think it looks fine, and if it is a part of your personality, then I say leave it showing. If you don’t like the tattoo (regret having it), then cover it up. But ideally, it’s your choice. You could also ask your photographer if they would be able to edit out the tattoo in a picture or two if you don’t like the look of it. It looks like a small enough tattoo that they may be able to do that.

I actually see muscle definition in your back. Secondly, I don’t think your back looks bad at all. I think you look very womanly.
Next, I would cover up the tattoo. Your dress is very beautiful and classic, and your tattoo doesn’t really fit in with that in my opinion.

I JUST Posted a blog about this! I just had my first fitting the other day and I feel like I have major back fat and fat arms 🙁 But you look amazing!!! <3 And I see NO back fat on you!

@SweetJester: You look amazing! I don’t see any back fat, and your butt just looks shapely! That is desireable, not a bad thing!
However, I totally understand what you’re feeling. I had my first fitting last week and even though I’ve been working really hard to tone up, especially in the chest, arms, and back, I still saw a gross back muffin top! My mom and MOH assured me it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was, but I still saw it. We’re loweing the back just a little, so hopefully that will help. That being said, even if we hadn’t lowered the back, I doubt anyone else would notice! We’re our own worst critics, and we see all of our own flaws highlighted. Everyone else is just going to see a beautiful bride! That’s what I see!
As for the tattoo….well, I am of the mind that you got your tattoo for a reason. If you regret it now, cover it up. If you don’t regret it, then rock it! It’s a part of who you are. And formal ballroom wedding be damned, you’re still you. Don’t be afraid to show it off!

It doesn’t matter how much weight you lose, most brides end up with some back fat. It’s just a fact of life with strapless dresses. Don’t let it get to you. You do look great.

@SweetJester: Wait! Where’s the back fat and bum, because I certainly don’t see them! It’s looks like you now have a properly fitting dress. By the way… can I have your waist, it’s awesome!

@SweetJester: I don’t see any back fat. And a mermaid style gown gives you a butt that you really don’t have. I have NO butt and my dress gives me some curves and I LOVE that about it!! I think it looks great on you.

I think it looks great! Very flattering and congrats on the weight loss! While I love tattoos, my opinion is that it would be less distracting in ur professional photos if u cover it. I’m covering mine for the wedding day.

@SweetJester: First off, you look AMAZING! Like WOW CONGRATS! That is a LOT of weight loss!
Secondly: I agree with PPs– That’s not back fat, that’s muscle!
And as for the tattoo: Does is have a special meaning? Did you get it in memory of your BFF who died tragically in college/long lost grandmother/dog that saved you from addiction? Then I would leave it. But if it’s just a “I think it’s pretty/cool/whatever” tattoo, I would cover it!

Thank you all for taking the time to respond and reassure me! I appreciate it and am feeling better about how I look. I’m going to try to cover my tattoo with makeup and see how it looks! I’ll keep working to tone up and will not let any remaining hang ups cast a shadow over our day :). You guys are awesome!!

Make sure that if you do cover your tattoo, whatever you use doesn’t get end up over your dress, especially if you start to sweat a bit!
