So I went for my first fitting yesterday. My dress came in two weeks ago and I hadn’t even seen it yet because they have been so busy. And I was sooooo excited to finally try on the dress I waited 6 months to see again!
When I ordered the dress, I ended up ordering a size 12. I tried on a size 10, which was a little snug but fit, and decided to go up one size to allow my big knockers some room for breathing. I figured that should be fine and was also the suggestion of the store owner. As soon as the dress was zipped up yesterday I knew something was wrong. This size 12 dress was more snug than the size 10 🙁 How is that possible?! My boobs were bubbling over the top with the dreaded big boob crease line (ladies with DD’s and above should know what I mean). I wasn’t wearing a bra because it had a built in one and I couldn’t fit one anyway. Not only were the boobs an issue- the natural waist was too tight and my little tummy was causing it to sinch. I asked the seamstress how this was possible and she said that because each dress is made uniquely it might not always be the exact sizing. The only thing that did come out right was that they ordered it to my height- so it falls perfectly. I was sooo disappointed and sad and now worried I would look like a sausage stuffed into my dress. Luckily one of my bridesmaids was with me and told me to just see what my options were.
Here is what they came up with. We’ll let out the sides just a tiny bit to allow me to breathe. Removed the inner bra. I have to wear a “control top” as the little german seamstress said and try to loose some weight. I was planning on taking a 6 week bootcamp class anyway that meets 4 times a week so that’s good. And finally, since I was so worried about the boobs, we decided to to add straps. If we were adding them I wanted them to cross in the back. I think it doesn’t look too bad but I’m curious what other people think. Does it now take away from the dress? I think I will end up doing my hair a little differently too and maybe go with a sidewept look. Thoughts??

if you tried on a sample 10 it was probably stretched out from other people trying it on.
Once they let the sides out it’s going to look great – then the waistline won’t be so tight over your stomach. The voluminous material will lay flatter – everything will be perfect!

i think it looks gerat on you. the straps dont take away from it at all. you look lovely

I think it looks great! I like the straps crossing in back too.

I think it’s really beautiful, and I like it with the straps. I guess I’m not really seeing what you mean. Your boobs don’t look smashed and the waist doesn’t look like it’s buckling? If you DO need to lose weight, it can’t be very much…

that seens so odd. Did they not take your measurements and then decides the size to order you? I dunno that just is odd that they would order based on the size you tried on and not your actual measurments.
But it sounds like they have a plan to fix it. And i have DD’s, i feel your pain lol!! Its lovely though and you will be perfect on your wedding day!!

i think you look pretty!!! I like the straps. I love the sidesweeping hair, You look beautiful.
I have the same issue – “My boobs were bubbling over the top with the dreaded big boob crease line (ladies with DD’s and above should know what I mean).” if you figure out how to fix that – let me know. That is my biggest concern for my dress too.
me – the first time i tried it on (i had a corset bra on) … i’ve lost weight since then
2nd time i tried the sample on – no bra or built in one.

The straps crossing in the back gives it character… I like it. Good thing about the boot camp, but it’s still not a guarantee, you will lose fat but also gain muscle so you may not lose inches! But on another note, didn’t she measure your bust area, to make sure a 12 was the right size?

OMG, I LOVE your dress! It looks great on you! I think once it is let out a smidge (not much at all) it will be perfect!

@Swizzle: Agreed. They’re supposed to measure you and then suggest a size to order based on your largest measurement.
However. You look great in that dress. Aside from being too tight to breathe, I think it fits you just fine. The straps look good and don’t take away from anything.

I think it looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Remember that we are our own worst critics hon.
If it feels too tight though, then obviously something needs to be done. personally, I see nothing wrong with it, but it’s how you feel in it. 🙂

I actually think you look great!

@jen 42713: OO you looks great in this dress! I love it!
@Swizzle: She did measure my wait and bust and then compared it to the San Patrick book for measurements. It didn’t even cross my mind that it wouldn’t fit because my weight has not changed at all since I bought it. But I guess anything can happen 🙂
@GroovyHippieChick: That makes sense that it could have been more broken in.
Thanks for all the comments bees. It helps to hear some re-assurance. I do think letting out the side just a smidge will help a lot!

Dress looks fine. Boobs are fine. The waist is a little snug, but if you’re going to be working out, that should resolve itself. Don’t let it out until you’ve reached your ideal size/shape, otherwise you’ll be paying more for alterations.
