I have my first appointment with my florist tomorrow (He’s the only affordable option in the area and comes highly reccommended). What are things that I should ask? Be aware of? Bring with me?

I would start to bring inspiration photos that you have come across so that your florist can get a good idea of your style. If you have any color swatches at this point in your planning, bring that with you too. Good luck with the meeting!

If you have certain flowers in mind, ask if there are similar looking options that are cheaper.
Make sure the things you want are in season at the time of your wedding.
You may want to talk about your venue and let them know the feel of your wedding if they’re doing your centerpieces.

@everalwaysrealtrue: Definately bring any inspirations you have. Have a color theme and if you’ve already picked or purchased your gown that’s helpful also. At least that’s what I was told by my florist. She said that the color of and design and details of the gown help them to create designs that will compliment your dress.

Know your budget, be willing to share that with him up front so he knows what you will and will not be able to afford in terms of the big picture (although he likely won’t quote you then and there). I agree with the PP that you should bring your inspiration photos and any swatches, also bring an estimate of the number of centerpieces, etc. you will need and a way to describle the overall “feel” of your wedding.
You shouldn’t need to have everything planned out – a really good brainstorming session with a good florist is a perfect way to guage how well you will work together and give them even more opportunity to really understand what you’re looking for.
