Hello everybody, first I’d like to thank you all for the countless reviews and opinions that I was able to go through that led to me choosing a moissanite stone for my fiances ring as literally every google search turned up a post on this board.
I’m about 2 weeks out from popping the question and am finalizing everything with my ring. I decided that I should give moissanite a shot since I already dropped a bundle on the ring itself and with my soon to be fiance and I having just bought a house, it seemed like a good way to save a little money. I went to the local (large) jeweler (Trice in Denver, CO) where they had ordered me a 6.5mm moissanite stone from C&C. Once it was in, I went over to have a look and was surprised that it showed quite a bit of the champagne/yellow color but I guess that’s to be expected in the bright lights of the jewelry store. It turned out to be a standard stone with no enhancement for which they were going to charge me $400!!! Well, I decided I’d save some money AND get a clearer stone by going with the Amora stone. I asked the woman (Helen) who was helping me if they could hold the stone for a few days so I could compare it when the Amora showed up. She said that was no problem at all so it was off to moissaniteco.com for me.
It showed up in a matter of days and I promptly went over to Trice to get the mounting started and compare the two. I must say that my expectations were severely NOT met as the unenhanced stone looked EXACTLY the same as my ENHANCED Amora. At that moment, my thought was that I should have just gone with the standard C&C which would have run me a significant amount less. Both stones viewed at all angles appeared the same and the jeweler even commented at one point how the stone they ordered seemed a very miniscule shade lighter than mine. Well, with time not being on my side anymore and the properly sized stone right there on hand, I had them proceed with the mounting of the amora stone.
I have to acknowledge that the stone looks very nice overall, but there was absolutely no difference whatsoever between the two of them. I think that expectations are high when you order these enhanced stones and they have all sorts of technical talk on their sites to back up whatever process it is that they supposedly do but in the end I think it is all smoke and mirrors. I contacted moissaniteco.com via their chat function (No phone number is available) and Kristen told me that the lighting in the jewelry store is a very harsh environment to see the true beauty of the stone. My response was if that is their explanation for why the unenhanced stone looked exactly the same as the enhanced stone, shouldn’t the unenhanced stone have appeared 4 shades less clear? Either way, I wasn’t expecting much from them as returning the stone is not an option, but if you’re on the fence as far as which stone to order, I’d highly recommend going with the cheaper non-amora or buy one of each so you can return it when you realize it is a bogus up sell.
thanks for the soapbox opportunity and the info packed forums!
