MrsUPS:   Usually I am hugely in favor of a first look, however from what you say, it sounds as if it isn’t right for you, so don’t do it!

I loved our first look and do not regret it. I actually haven’t seen any of the people who have regretted it either. That being said, it sounds like you shouldn’t do one.

Most people I knew who had a first look had a lot of family pictures to get in and didn’t want too long of a break between the ceremony and the reception. Since this doesn’t seem to be an issue for you and you don’t want to do a first look I think you should just skip it.

From my experience, it seems that people do a first look for one of two reasons: they do not want to cause a big delay between the ceremony and reception for pictures, or they are worried they’ll be nervous and want to see each other beforehand to calm nerves before walking down the aisle.

I don’t get the impression that either applies to you.  And since you’re leaning against it anyway, I’d say there’s no real reason to do it.

The logistics of our wedding are why we’re doing a first look. The ceremony is late and reception is in the same venue so we won’t be able to do pictures without having a really long break between ceremony and reception leaving people in the venue waiting for food and drinks which we don’t want. Initially I was disappointed that we’d be doing pictures before the ceremony becuase I’d never imagined my wedding that way but now I’m really excited and planning for where we’ll first see each other and what photos we can do. If your ceremony is that early it doesn’t sound like you need to do it. If you’re unsure, I wouldn’t 🙂

MrsUPS:  No problem.  My FI was very much against it until I showed him that, and he cried…getting married is about the two of you.  Having a wedding, and a reception leaves VERY little time for precisely what the whole thing is about…I’m so very excited to have this special moment with him when it’s our wedding day 🙂

I’m glad it helped

We’re not doing a first look. And we kinda feel like freaks for it, ha! I am doing one with my dad, but the first time FI will see me on the wedding day is when I walk down the aiale. For us, FI didn’t really see the point (his argument was “why ruin something I’ve looked forward to my entire life for pictures?”), and it’s not necessary for us (like you!). We have a 2:30 ceremony and our reception doesn’t start until 6:30. Plenty of time for photos, and if we did want a first look we’d need our photogs for more time (aka more money!)

MrsUPS:  I did- and we’re still still not doing one (also, we’re only a couple weeks away, so at this point it would involve a lot of rearranging, ha!). I think first looks are great and having nothing against them, it’s just not what we’re doing.
