Yesterday was my first official day of dress shopping with my mom and some of my BMs.  I found two dresses that I really liked, but I'm up in the air.  They are very different from each other, in my opinion, and that confuses me even more!

First Official Day of Dress Shopping : wedding DSC02369

Things I like about this dress:

    • The satin band accentuates my waist.
    • The beaded lace in just the right places.

    Things I'm unsure of:

    • The ivory color is coming off slightly more ivory that I would want.  Does it look yellow to anyone else?

First Official Day of Dress Shopping : wedding DSC02372

Things I like about this dress:

    • The price.  It's discontinued, so it's originally $950, but I pay $399. Holy moly!
    • It's very simple and elegant.  Very bridal.
    • The beading on the waist is gorgeous, and it made me look tiny!

    Things I'm not sure about:

    • It's satin.  My wedding is in June.  In Florida.  I see impending bridal heat stroke.
    • It has a cathedral train, and our wedding is at 2:00.  That seems a bit formal for the time of day and the general feel of our day.

So, that's what I'm thinking.  Give me your opinions!! :)

They're both very flattering on you, but I personally prefer the first one (and I don't think it looks yellowy at all!). I am not a huge fan of satin in general, and it does sound hot for Florida in June!  Plus, there's something a little too medieval about the dress to me. If it's just your first "official" day, though, why not keep looking?

I really like the second one. It makes your hips look slimmer, not that they are huge, but you know what I mean. b/c the skirt is wider on the first one.

If your wedding is outside, you will be hot either way.

i find it hot under those big dresses just in the store, so I don't think it will make too much of a difference. I knew someone who was sweating in October in New Orleans in a tule skirt so....

@Frog E.: I agree if you are not in a rush.....keep looking and make sure you are 100% sure. Don't buy a dress b/c it is cheap, you might regret it and want to get a new one and spend more on another one.

I prefer the 1st one, but thats just my style, i'm not crazy about the inverted pleats on the 2nd one, plus the 1st one is more modern lookin

i like the first one better. i am not a fan of all satin dresses, so i may be biased. i also just find the first one more flattering. i don't think it looks yellow. but would that be the one you get or could you order it in white if you wanted?

The first one, for sure - it's more modern, and much better for a Florida wedding. And I agree with @Frog E. that the second one has a slight medieval look to it.

You look lovely in both. But I'd suggest you keep looking - I bet there's one out there that you'll LOVE.

I like the 2nd one better on you. The 2nd one makes your torso longer while the 1st one makes you look shorter.

I didn't realize that the 2nd one could be medieval, but I totally see it now!  Renaissance fairs are NOT my thing, so thanks for pointing that out.

I am definitely planning on going to some more stores, but this appointment was to get a more focused idea of what I like.  I tried on everything from mermaid to humongous ball gowns.  I agree that the 1st one is flattering, yet comfortable for the sweltering June weather.

@purpleunicorn, I have another picture of it, and it looks less yellow, but I didn't post it because I'm making a really weird face.  I think the flash was doing something weird.

    Thanks for the input! :)

Yesterday was my first day shopping too! :)

I like the first one. I would look some more if you are not absolutley one of them is the one. I went shopping yesterday and found some I liked, but I went today and found some ones I liked even better than yesterday.

The first dress is beautiful!  But like all the other bees, I think you should allow yourself to enjoy the dress shopping process!  Definitely keep this one in the back of your mind while you shop!

@tksjewelry: Yayy!  I'm a bit nervous to plan a wedding in such a short amount of time, but that's the day he asked permission to date me.  It means a lot to us to start our married life on the same day we started our relationship.  What time will your wedding be?

I think the second one makes you look thinner but I do not think either one is THE dress

Of the two, I like the first one better. The second one seems slightly dated to me. You look great in both of them but I think maybe keep shopping? The first one is really pretty and it does make your waist look tiny, but I feel like it makes you look bigger than you are on the bottom.

I think the first dress looks stunning! But I echo previous posters - keep looking if you're uncertain

After sleeping on it, I've decided that I like dress #1, but I'm not LOVING it.  Dress #2 is out.  It's all good, because I didn't want to be done dress shopping.  Thanks for the insight, Bees!

Keep looking - you'll know it when you try it on. The first is charming but the second makes your figure look much older than it is. Maybe try some different shapes and makers - Galina designs at Davids Bridal are a bit more youthful. You have a great figure but we can't see it in these styles. Just my 2 cents. Have fun trying on gowns -it's a chance in a lifetime :)

    I like the first one!

Also, it probably looks yellow because the shop's lights have a yellow tint. :)

I like the first one.  I don't know you, but it looks like it suits better than the other one.  The second looks more formal and renaissance-y. The first looks so girly and it's definitely not yellow.  I thought for sure my dress looked purple, the color is Oyster, but it seemed purple.  But no one else saw that but me.  I love it.

Dress #1 is MY dress!  I love it!  But go out and shop some more if you want.  BTW dress #1 is also discontinued.

I actually like how this dress is a bit more ivory than some of the others.  But ivory looks a lot better on me than white or diamond white.

dress #1 was my first-runner up :) i loved the way it made my waist look tiny, too! i think it looks lovely on you! i do agree about it being more "golden" than ivory-- my guys are wearing charcoal which i thought would class with my dress which is one of the reasons i didn't choose it. it is so beautiful though, so i vote #1
