I love love love Ella Fitzgerald, so if you're looking for something that's a little more on the class side of things, listen to some of that. I love "Let's Do It (Let's Fall In Love)", "The Very Thought Of You" and "Cheek to Cheek".
We did "I Will" by the Beatles for our first song
Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to--I will.
For if I ever saw you
I didn't catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same.
Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart.
And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you me to
You know I will
I will.
At Last by Ella is also great. I'd look into a more modern twist on Somewhere over the Rainbow- the Hawiian version, great song. Also, any old school like Gerswhin is very classic. If your looking for Lyrics there is a Randy Newman song that is titled "Feels Like Home to Me" that is wonderful, I cry. Michael Buble's new album has some great ones as well. If you want to go more "Classic" the Elton John This is Your Song song would be great as well.
Hope this helps!
We'll be dancing to "You're my Home" by Billy Joel.... one of his lesser known songs, but it's great and not too slow or too upbeat.... just right!
A few of my friends have done their first dance to "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. Others that I've seen done are "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "You're All I Need to Get By" (both by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell). If you're leaning towards something upbeat, here are some others I like:
"You're My Best Friend" by Queen
"For Once in My Life" by Stevie Wonder
"I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" by Spiral Staircase
"L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole
"(This Will Be) An Everlasting Love" by Natalie Cole
"Oh How Happy" by Shades of Blue
"I Get a Kick Out of You" by Frank Sinatra
Good luck!!
Our first song is gonna be "Fly Me To the Moon" by Frank Sinatra
MissBlushing, I'm trying to convince Mr. Chickadee to do "You're My Home"! That's one of my FAVORITE songs, but he thinks anything with the words "instant pleasure dome" in it is inappropriate, haha. Needless to say, we are still undecided.
MissBlushing, I loved You're My Home- a really great suggestion but he didn't go for it! However, I am happy to say that we did come to our song, and we're both happy with it- the Princess Bride Theme Song!
Our song isn't quite the easiest to dance to, so I think we'll use it for our slideshow, so now we need to figure out a new song to be our first dance song. Our song though if you're wondering is Jack Johnson's "Better Together" It was playing when we had our first kiss coincidentally :) I absolutely love Jack Johnson (not more than my fiance though!), so I need to use this somewhere and though it would be great as the final song in our slideshow.
MissNashville, I absolutely love the idea of At Last! I hadn't thought of it and it's such a great song! Definite possibility for us. And the Somewhere over the Rainbow is also great, I always smile and get goosebumps for some reason any time I hear that version.
We danced to Frank Sinatra's version of "It Had to Be You" (without the first 45 seconds of intro, which are hard to dance to). We also considered "Love is Here to Stay" which is slightly more up-tempo, and "L-O-V-E," which is such a fun song.
We have been trying to pick one for awhile now... we don't have "a song" sooo....
but i think we have decided on "More" by Harry Connick Jr. (because i love him!)
What about something by Otis Redding?
I think our first dance will be to These Arms of Mine.
There is a really beautiful song out by Michelle Featherstone "We are man and wife" you should listen to it. I would try to stear clear of any break-up songs, after all it is a joyful occasion! Good Luck:)

we are still looking for the "right" first song- something we can agree on. We both like Smoke gets in your eyes, but then I read the lyrics- and realized it's about breaking up. He still wants the song, but I think it's not appropriate anymore. I think we'd like something maybe a old fashioned sounded (though not required). As examples of the directions we've headed- songs with sense of humor, like The Book of Love, (What a) Wonderful world (the don't know much about history... song), and Silly Love Songs- though those have all been rejected at this point for various reasons. Or just something pretty but really classic feeling - we like Moon River and would like Smoke gets in your eyes but for the lyrics- again, all rejected so far.
I don't know what's left that we can agree on- but please let me know if you have suggestions! Just maybe you'll come up with something we can agree on!
