What was the first thing you did after you closed on your first home? After all the paperwork was signed and the keys were in your hands, what did you do?
Mr Hedgie keeps joking that the second we have keys in hand we are going to run to our new house and start to “break it in”. All I can think is RUG BURNS! lol

Went to a bar and had a beer just the 2 of us to celebrate!

Disinfected the kitchen countertops from their cat being up there, lol (the cat was there when we did our final walk through and yes, we saw it on the counter).
And then we had a glass of sparkling juice for me (I was 5 months pregnant) and a beer for DH while we started painting.

Went to the house to find the guy was still moving out lol we even went back later that night and the guy was still moving out.
But we went back the next night and had a few beers and talked about everything we wanted to change and paint. Good times 🙂

We did the very grown up thing and went immediately to target to buy a bunch of stuff we needed for the house/moving in (cleaning supplies, trash cans, etc), then went to dinner, then went to the house… and broke it in 🙂 (rug burns are worth it… it was our first house!!! lol)

We opened a bottle of champagne and then totally “broke it in”. We still joke about the fact we did it in the bedroom even though there was no bed and we could have done it anywhere.

@Mrs Hedgehog: HUGE congrats on the house! The first thing we did we go out to eat with our parents 🙂
Then FI boarded a helicopter to go work offshore.
Fun times all around. :/

@Kjeff760: After we closed and got to the house the old owners still had the uhaul in the drive way. I guess they were up all night and early morning packing and lost the keys to the UHaul, turns out they packed the keys in the back of the truck. They were there most of the day. What is with people waiting until the last second?

- Wedding: September 2011 - Clark Gardens
Not much haha. We did a lease back so they stayed in the house for an additional month even though we owned it. But they paid us rent so it was fine with us 🙂

We ran around the house, me screaming “Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!” and then I took photos from every single angle in every room and all around the outside (it was an absolutely be-a-utiful day). Then we ate Subway sandwiches in the dining room on the furniture we bought from the seller.
We were so stressed from the home-buying process (almost lost the house at the last second) and moving and our shitty jobs and planning a wedding that we didn’t “break it in” until 2 weeks later.

We did a lease back for 3 days, so we just went back to our rental house. Might have gone to eat dinner to celebrate, but I don’t remember since it was 8 years ago.
But once we got in, first thing I did was have a cleaning service come and clean every surface, then I steam cleaned the carpet.

@ieatunicorns: lol, at least yours had a big truck! This guy was moving in a SUV… one trip at a time. And he moved a bunch of stuff into the neighbors garage so now everytime their garage is open i see all his stuff lol. This guy was divorced and his exwife owned the house but he was living in it so he wasnt in any hurry to find a place of his own.
@Mrs. High Wire: I was really wanting this to happen in our case. We still had 2.5 months left on our apartment lease so it would have been nice!

Wow is it terrible that I can’t remember? It wasn’t even 3 years ago!
But when we bought our investment property earlier this year, my uncle was in town so he took us for dinner to celebrate.

Cried! The amount of debt we just took on is truly terrifying!

A HAPPY DANCE!!!!!
Then we went to the house, and sat in the den, and imagined what furniture should go where.
