I have recently gone off the pill (Yasmin) after 10 years on, my husband and I aren’t quite TTC yet (more like NTNT) but I am wondering how long it took people to get their cycle back to normal after going off the pill?
I just want to get a feel for what my ‘normal’ is like – as it has been so long since I had a real cycle.

I was on the pill for about 10 years and it took me a little over a year to get back to normal periods and ovulation. DH and I aren’t TTC yet, we’ve just been charting my cycle obsessively since it was so wonky before I went on the pill. I’ve heard of some people getting pregnant their first month off the pill though so it might not take you guys that long!

I was on the pill for 10 years as well and finished my last pill on January 29th. I did not get my period until 48 days later… I was freaking out! My next cycle after that was 35 days long, and ever since I have had 28 day cycles. It does take some time!

I was on the pill for 8 years.
Got my first period exactly 28 days after going off…very normal period. I wasn’t testing for ovulation but I do think I felt an ovulation pain halfway through too. We were preventing that month. So I would say for me I got normal right away, but I guess time will tell if that is true or if it was just the first month.
Now I’m on my 2nd month off the pill. We’re not preventing, but again I didn’t test for ovulation….we’ll see how next week goes.
My best friend also just came off the pill after many years. Her 1st period came like normal right away too. She and her hubbie got preggers on the 2nd month trying.

I was on the pill for 12 years and had a normal 28 day cycle right away with standard ovulation (I was charting).

I was on the same pill for about 10 years. I stopped taking it in January, we got married in June and by November we were pregnant. I would say within 2 months my cycle was back to normal.

I started having consistent 28 day cycles immediately after stopping the pill. I don’t think there is a “normal” for this though. From what I’ve read on this and other boards, it really varies by person. Also, keep in mind that as we age, some women’s cycles change naturally, so your pre-pill normal cycle length may be different than your post-pill normal cycle length.

I was on bc for 12 years. I have had normal periods ever since I went off of it. I was on seasonale for last 2 years so I was only getting a period 4 times per year. I was shocked that it just went right back to 28 days.

Was on the pill for about 9 years, and have had 2 normal periods since going off. I haven’t been testing to see if I’ve ovulated, but I have symptoms 2 weeks after my period, so I’m going to say that I am. We are not trying yet, but likely will start after the next one.
I was really suprised that I had no problems staying on schedule. My sister went off after being on the pill for about 10 years, and it took her about 8 months before she got her period. She’s been off for a couple of years now, and still isn’t regular.

I’m 30 years old, was on the pill for 12 years. My first period was 30 days and very light, and my second was 38 days. I tested for ovulation and got my LH surge about two weeks after my first period, so I assume I ovulated. So now I am in cycle #3 coming off the pill, and I’m really hoping it starts getting shorter, not longer! For some reason, I didn’t think I would be irregullar like this. We will start trying in July so I’m really hoping to get back to normal.

I agree with PPs who say that it really depends on the person, but I know that I really need to see how other people experience things, so here is my story:
I was on BCP for 11+ years and starting charting and using OPKs as soon as I went off last month. My first cycle was 35 days (which is about what it was before I went on the pill) and I ovulated (got + OPKs and then O was confirmed by charting) on CD 21. My first period off BCP has been so light as to be almost non-existent, but the PMS has returned to high school levels with a venegance. Based on how long I had been on BCP, I was shocked that I ovulated and had such a normal cycle the first month off the pil, but extreme fertility runs in my family…

i’m going to be on my BCP for two more months since i already have it in hand and want to make sure that there’s not oops over the summer!
while i’m still on it, i’m starting to chart so i get in the habit of it. i want to go off this fall just in case i’m not one of those who goes back to a regular schedule after 10 years on BCP. we want to start trying next spring, so hopefully i’ll have a good base of charts when we actively start.

I was on for 11 years (Loestrin) and my cycles have been mostly between 30 and 33 days, but on 2 months it was 40 days. My first cycle was 32…

I was on various BCPs for 13-ish years. Last month was my first month off. I didn’t test for ovulation, but I got all of the right natural signs a couple of days after day 14. My first cycle was 31 days (although somewhat lighter than I was expecting). We’ll see if this month is the same, but for now all signs point to the fact that my body still understands what its cycle is supposed to do.
