Just wanted to pop in and say hi!
I’m a first time poster, long time reader… well.. a few weeks now, but HOURS and HOURS of reading. 🙂
I’m not engaged yet, but SO has purchased a ring, so I’m just happily anticipating the big day. I’m 39, he’s 42, (2nd marriage for him, 1st for me).
(it’s a nice square cluster ring from Peoples… big enough to satisfy my sparkle hunger, but economical enough for me to not feel guilty over what we COULD have spent money on). Not living with my SO, in fact he’s 2 hours drive away, but manages to come to see me (or vice versa) EVERY WEEKEND. I’m constantly blown away by the little things he says and does. (Like taking a ‘mental health day’ from work and surprising me in the MIDDLE of the week with a sub for us to share -my favourite, not his-and spending a few hours with me and going back home…he says I’m his spa retreat-it touches my heart.)
Now that I know I’m getting married eventually, my mind can’t stop with the ‘get ready’ plans. I’m plus size, and I’d LOVE a cute poofy dolly couture type dress. If I can save up enough, that would be who I’m going with. We are so on a budget though, soooo I’ve been ogling replica sites, but it makes me nervous.
Has anyone successfully purchased a replica in plus size and short-ish and cute? Is this a good style for a plus size/apple shaped woman? I would love to see your real pictures, because i’m trying to envision myself in one, and i’m doubting wedding shops have samples my size to try on.

@Ellyloo: Definitely check out David’s Bridal. I had my reservations, but I got my dress there this week!
I don’t know what you consider plus sized but there was a shorter, heavier girl than I trying on gowns next to me. When she came out in this style (not 100% sure this was the dress) there was no competition!! It was adorable, classy and figure flattering.
Best thing about David’s is you can apply for the credit card, pay it off in a year interest free, and you get 10% off your dress by using the card!
PS this model is gaunt and has no curves!! I found that my dress and the girl who had this one on looked WAYYY better on than in photos!!

@Ellyloo: PS I just saw your comment about real pics – I understand!
Though not the dress I recommended to you, here’s a pic of the model and the pic of my dress on ME. No doubt, I have hips and width, but I honestly think that compliments the shape of the gown more! The model does nothing for it! I hate to sound pompous, but I’m being honest

I’m a street size 14 or so. This was my dress. It’s not a replica, It’s Justin Alexander 8465, but it was puffy and tea length 🙂

@BurlapnLace: I totally agree, you fill out that dress waaaaay better. Very pretty. thank you!!

First off, welcome!
Second, I think any of the Dolly dresses would look absolutely adorable on you!
Third, that’s the great thing about tea-length or knee-length dresses! Every gown can be made into one. So if you can find a sample ballgown on clearence, you can always shorten it!

@Glasgowbound: I’m a 18 or more, depending on where i go to shop. (sigh) That dress looks SO right on you. Thank you for that picture!

@BrandNewBride: I was wondering if that was possible… THAT is a GREaT idea.

This is plus size. SO and I went to a comic con together, and dressed steam punk. It was my first steampunk slapped together costume, but it worked. 🙂
So yeah, 5’4″, over 200lbs.. big in the abdomen. 44C chest.

I have no replica experiance so I can’t speak to that, but I’m also a plus sized bride. I went to David’s bridal thinking they would probably have the best plus size selection. Make sure you go to a larger David’s bridal, or call and see what their plus size selection is like. The David’s I went to had 6-7 dresses that fit, and I’m a bridal 18/20. That being said I found that I look great in a natural waist ball gown and pretty decent in a drop waist gown. I think that’s the best way, just try on several differant shapes until you find what looks best on you!

Dolly dresses pop up in classifieds ALL the time, it’s something about their fabulousness that makes people want to share! Aside from the bee classifieds I’d check e-bay (duh) and these 2:
offbeat-http://tribe.offbeatbride.com/forum/classified (offbeat requires you become a ‘tribesmaid’ to view their classifieds, but it’s free and it’s just a form you fill out like a human in great detail to prevent spambots from getting in there) look here’s an 18/20 for sale right now! for $350! http://tribe.offbeatbride.com/topic/atlanta-ga-dolly-couture-dress-size-1820-350
pre-owned wedding dresses http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/ this one lets you set up alerts for particular sizes/designed etc etc so you’ll know if someone puts it up!
finally I’m going to recommend this OBB post about plus sized dress shopping cuz it’s AWESOME: http://offbeatbride.com/2014/01/plus-size-wedding-dress-shopping
