I just went dress shopping for the first time today! So much fun! Today, I really just wanted to figure out which shape was the most flattering on me. (I am short, about 5’1, and a little curvy around the hips.) Which types do you think I should shop around for more?
Option 1: Mermaid (Allure 8923). I actually found this style online beforehand, and I still love the neckline, but I’m not sure about how the skirt looks. I’m afraid it might flare out too low on me and I’m not sure if alterations could fix that or make the skirt less flared? The first picture looks a little funny because the camera was pointed downward (my mom’s taller than me…hehe) but you can get a good idea of how it looks in the mirror in the second picture.
Options 2 and 3: Ballgown/A-line (Enzoani Ghislaine). My mom and I both loved the detail on this dress and how it fit the vintage look I was going for, but this just threw me off-guard a littlebecause I wasn’t going in to the store expecting to like a ballgown or beading. The sales associates said that I could take some of the crinoline out from underneath if I wanted to make it more of an a-line skirt. Here they are holding back part of the skirt to make it less full, but it actually has a poofier skirt. (the straps are removable)
Option 4: Fit and flare (actually not sure what this dress is exactly, I didn’t write it down!) I don’t think this particular dress is exactly what I’m looking for (maybe it needs a belt?), but I do think I like the shape. Does it flare out too low still though?
Thank you so much for your input!!

The first dress is really beautiful on you!

I think the fit and flare looks stunning on you! It’s very complimentary. All of your dresses are gorgeous, you have excellent taste.

The color, shape, and detail of the ballgown/ a line look amazing on you, amke you look the slimmest, and its so unique. The other options seem more modern/ trendy right now

@ekmd16: I think the Enzoani Ghislaine is GORGEOUS! You don’t look bad in any of the dresses you posted. I like the A-line or the fit-and-flare on you best.

Option 4 is Casablanca 1995 (only know because I tried that one on myself today!)
Since you have curves, I definitely think the ballgown/A-line will be really flattering on you. A-lines are classic and beautiful, I think 🙂 That dress is gorgeous on you and I love how both the skirt and the bodice are beautiful and interesting to look at in terms of detail.

@Papillon23: Ooh thank you! I will make a note of that style number
Thank you everyone for your opinions! After looking at the pictures more I think I’m leaning toward an a-line or slim fit and flare. The Enzoani is probably my favorite so far, but I’m afraid it might be out of my price range (trying on a dress before checking the price tag=beginner’s mistake!) It’s still early in the game, so I’m looking forward to shopping around more!

I like the fit and flare but it definetely needs a belt with it. I would go with a fit and flare or a line.

@ekmd16: Those are beautiful dresses but I really think since you are petite you should on a drop waist dress. It’s between a mermaid and a ball gown. It also flares out much higher than the mermaid dress and is fitted to about the hips. I am petite as well, and the mermaid gowns looked the same on me. I ended up going with a drop waist gown.

I’d go with the ballgown or fit and flare. I don’t like the mermaid style on you. I think the ballgown is gorgeous on you though!

That first dress looks amazing on you! All of the dresses are very pretty, but I think that first one looks gorgeous on you.

I think they all look great on you! But my absolute favorite is Option 3! But whichever one you go with will fit you 🙂

I really like the second one without the straps. I think that since you are shorter the mermaid/trumpet styles are falling a bit too low. See if the alterations dept. has a hollow to hem – I believe they can alter it according to your height. Love the last one, too!

I definitely like the first style on you and agree that the flare probably needs to be lifted to better suit your proportions 🙂
