So I went to my first ever dress appointment this week and wanted to share some pictures to get advice. I’m sharing my favorites of the ones I tried and hoping for some encouragement and help making my decisions. I found two dresses that I love, but differences in sample sizes and actual size of the Katie have made it hard to picture how they’d look when ordered. I am super nervous about posting pictures of myself in wedding dresses and am a little self-conscious, so please be kind. D:
#1: “Hillary” by David Tutera
I love pink dresses, and though I thought I wanted a giant poofy ballgown, I actually really like how this A-line looks on me. I have been told by friends that this one suits my personality best. But do I only like it because this sample size was the closest to my real size and thus looks the least out of proportion? Help!
#2: “Tiana” by David Tutera
Ouch, ignore awkward face. I don’t think this one looks as good in the photos as it did IRL. Boo, unphotogenic dress. But it’s got the most gorgeous pink skirt! It has the plain tulle layers I originally thought I wanted, and I thought the bodice looked better IRL despite not having the sweetheart I wanted. I thought it was a top choice in the store, but now I’m thinking not so much.
#3: Mystery dress (I think Sophia Tolli, can’t recall style)
I basically tried this one on for fun since I don’t think this silhouette is for me. I’ve always had my heart set on a ballgown. And it’s so hard to tell what it’d look like when it fits. In the back you can see that the extra fabric had to be rolled up to be clipped. 🙁 Opinions? Should I look for more fitted dresses or call it quits on this shape?
#4: The Holy Grail aka “Clove” by Sophia Tolli
So I have a story about this dress. I found a picture, searched for ages to find the designer, and made an appointment just to try it on. I love everything about it. The problem? It’s about eight sizes too big in the sample. Literally. Please hold your laughter re bodice. But I still feel like I’d love it in my size, and I was assured that the neckline would not be that comically big if it fit me properly. Help, please? I love this dress so much but it’s so hard to tell in the sample.
Overall, I am torn between #1 and #4. I feel like the first one is more “me” while the last is a “special princess” version of me. Do I want to be a special princess? Yes. Do I want something too over-the-top that I can’t move in and won’t look right even in my size? No. And I always wanted pink!
How’d I do for my first try? I am terrified to try on completely different dresses since I loved them all and feel like I’d just end up with an even bigger dilemma. As you can see, I had a hard time with the sample sizes but I’d love to hear your thoughts. /slinks nervously back into lurkerdom
