My dress finall arrived after 7 months and I went to try it on last night. When I bought it I had almost lost 50 pounds and now I’ve dropped a bit more than that and been focusing on toning. I am pear shaped though, with a tiny waist and even though I have exposed ribs now fat still likes to congregate on my thighs and butt. I’m still working on toning but if I can’t lose my ‘saddlebags’ will spanx minimise them by much? Either way I’m wearing some kind of control wear under this dress to stop any lumps, pantylines etc. I know my hips will always be wide for my frame but I want to lose the lump of fat that hangs under them so the dress flows better. For reference I’m a size 6 now, sometimes a 4.
i felt a bit flat after trying it on last night – the photos make me look bigger than I felt in the mirror too 🙁 what do you all think? Any suggestions?

I think you look beautiful! I know we are our own worst critic, but I honestly don’t see any of the things that you are talking about. I think you have a beautiful figure for the dress!

@Lollybags: I love that dress! I think if you put on the right under garments on your problems will go away! All I can see is a panty-line I think.
BTW the dress makes your upper body look awesome and toned!

Im not really sure that you have any saddle bags. I’m pretty sure they are called hips.

The dress is lovely. Spanx will likely help to just smooth everything underneath since the material is so silky, but you definitely don’t need them to hide anything! You look beautiful.

@Lollybags: I don’t think you have sadlebags and you have great figure for that dress! Spanx will definitely smooth everything out and I would honestly recomend them since your dress fabric is so gorgeously clingy. Think visable panty line type smoothing, not “you need to loose 10lbs” smoothing (because you totally don’t!)

You look amazing! Congrats on the weight loss!

I also don’t think it helps that you don’t have the right undergarments on. Panties don’t do much for fitting wedding dresses, but I don’t see these saddle bags you’re talking about.

@eeniebeans: if you saw me sans dress you would understand, I do have naturally wide hips but there is also quite a lot of flesh that hangs out on my upper thighs on the side 🙂

You look WONDERFUL!!! And yes, spanx will work wonders to smooth everything out (which you only need bc the fabric is clingy).

I’m just not a fan of the clinginess of the material. I definitely think a slip would help. Not sure if spanx makes the right kind, but you’d want one that disappears under the dress and gives that extra thickness of fabric to make the effect more flowy around your thighs.
As for looking fatter in photos than the mirror, that’s because we all look fatter in photos than real life (mirror is more accurate). Photos try to make a 3D image into a 2D image, the result, the well-known saying: “The camera adds 10 lbs.” It really does.

@Lollybags: Rago shapewear! I HIGHLY suggest it but honestly don’t think you have a problem 🙂

@joya_aspera: not sure there is much I can do about the ‘clinginess’ of the fabric. Sorry you don’t like it but I do 🙂
Ok you’ve added suggestions now which is super helpful – what about underwear? Will seam free do the trick?

@Lollybags: I will honestly tell you that you don’t need to worry about shapewear. If you feel like it will make you feel more confident (and confidence is true beauty), go for it. I really think you look absolutely stunning!!!!!!!!!

@Lollybags: You look amazing! I only see a beautiful figure in a perfect dress. You have nothing to worry about!
