I went to David's Bridal yesterday to try on dresses, in order to get an idea of what looks good on me.  I went in there with a bunch of styles to try on, most of them were tea length, which I found out does not look good on me at all.  The girl helping me was most unhelpful, and horribly awkward.  I was trying to have fun, and she wouldn't laugh at any of my jokes or anything.  I was feeling horribly self conscious; I'm a street size 10, and a dress size 12, 14, 16.  Wow, was that a bummer :(

Anyway, I found a few dresses that I liked, but I thought they made me look like a tank.  I've never been that comfortable in white, or offwhite, but I want a white dress for the wedding (I mean, it's tradition).  So, what do y'all think?  Be honest.

    Thanks!

p.s. I apologize for the stupid look of my face in all of them - I felt awkward

@Tulip, it's actually not plain...It was covered in lace (my camera sucks lol)

@gio, I wasn't too sure about the sleeves...But I lved that it was lowcut, and now too restricting

    Thanks for y'alls opinions!

I love dress 3; think it looks great on you! Also, before I tried on any wedding dresses, I 'knew' I was going to get a white wedding dress. But as I started trying them on, I thought the off-white and ivory colors looked better with my skin tone (I'm a white girl :D ) And I found out that I felt more comfy in those off white colors. So maybe you should try on some ivory colors as well, just to see how you feel in them.

I like the first and third ones the best! I think the sleeves on the second one are a little too bulky for your frame. :) Show it all off, girl!

I like either the 1st or the last ones...i would definitely try on an ivory color too though...the stark white one tend to be less flattering.  We have similar coloring (as best I can tell) and my dress is ivory.

Thanks y'all!  I definitely don't feel as bad now...staring at myself in those mirrors was awful!  I didn't like the sleeves too much - I felt like they made my arms look way fat(ter), so I'm definitely going to go with strapless.

    Thanks for the input, again!

I think the second dress was very flattering.  You'll find something great and will get used to doing this.  It's really weird at first, but it will get better :)

@Dizzy- I don't think they make your arms look fat at all, and your arms don't look fat period! That's why I picked the other two for liking better. :p

I sure am pushy this morning. I blame the fever. lol

i would love to see you in a very strong fabric like satin or silk. but with a corset back. i think this would be key for you as you have a similar body shape to mine. did you try any on like that?

i would also love to see you try on more stapless as you have wonderful shoulders and arms and look stunning in the stapless ones.

    definately a good start!

I like the second one.  You won't have your hand on your hips, but remember, you'll be holding a bouquet.  That will change the look.  I think you'd be surprised that some slight alterations and the proper shoes will change the way you look at yourself.

I think the third is the most flattering shape on you. I agree with everyone the straps are too much for you.

You ladies are too sweet!I agree, I like the last one the best (it was actually the first one I tried on).  What I really want to do is if I get a dress with a zipper, have it taken out and put a lace up back in, because I think they are so pretty.

But seriously, my confidence level went way up by reading your responses.  I'm for real blushing Laughing

I love the third dress....it is VERY flattering and you look wonderful!!! I think that the strapless look really shows off your shape in a very good way. My next favorite is the second one with the shoulder straps (very classic!)

I did the same thing, I went to DB to try on my first dresses. FELL IN LOVE with one there, but of course still continued to look. You are very correct on the lace up back, not only do they LOOK beautiful, but dang do they do wonders!!! You should totally go check out and try some on that have that back! I felt the SAME way and what not in DB dresses and looking back on the pics I took of me in the dresses I can actually SEE  a difference on how much better a corset back fits to a body! I am a "curvey" girl = Hips and Bust here! LOL so I know how you feel! Best of luck darlin! They all still looked great on you and I am sure you will find one that makes you gasp and you will know and FEEL like it was made for you!

I think you should try some more silhouettes. There is a dress out there for you! Maybe try some different salons.. Alfred Angelo has a lot of dresses in every size.

I like the 1st and last dresses the best. If you like the lace-up look, see if you can find somewhere near you that carries Alfred Angelo gowns. They have some great dresses with lace up backs. They have really great prices (most I liked were under $600) and I think they're better quality than David's Bridal.

I agree, go to different places and get a feel for what you feel good in. Even if you can't afford them, just go and try some on and then you can look for a good deal once you know what fits. Ebay!

I liked the first dress the best! :-)

I see a lot of Alfred Angelo suggestions...and apparently, there are tons of stores in my area that sell his dresses!  That's good news (I live in a funky area where there's not too much going on lol)!  Looks like I'll be doing some more recruiting of my friends and taking them along with me!

I actually bought the 3rd one and ended up returning it. In the end, I didn't like the fact that it didn't have a train or a sweetheart neckline.

I like the 1st one on you the best. So pretty!

I'm not a fan of the last one, but that's probably because the reflection behind you is weird and looks like part of the dress so I can't get a feel for it. I like the simple dresses more that the insanely fancy ones. I definitly like number 3!

If I can recommend other dresses, I think you should look at Maggie Sottero. I wore one of her dresses for my wedding and loved it. Her dresses are good for chester girls (like us) b/c a lot of them already have corsets.
The price point on them is really good too!

P.S. I think you look FABULOUS
