I am going in tomorrow morning for my first ultraound (this will be our first baby)….so nervous and excited 🙂 I will be 10 weeks 5 days and they are going to be doing an abdominal ultrasound. They didn’t mention anything about drinking water beforehand. Did you have to drink water or not?
Thanks for the replies!

@pittgirl4: I would drink at least a litre before going in or they won’t be able to get a clear shot/good measurements! My clinic did not have cups for water, so definitely drink before you go:)

I’ve had several abdominal ultrasounds (sadly not to look for a baby yet) and have always been told to come with a full bladder. Can you call your doctor’s office in the morning to ask or is your appointment first thing in the morning. It wouldn’t be fun to not see anything or have to get the “dildo cam” (what I humorously call the transvaginal ultrasound) when you’re not expecting it.

@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina: My appointment is first thing tomorrow morning. So I guess I’ll be drinking on the way 🙂

@pittgirl4: If this is your first ultrasound and you’re only 10 weeks, they’ll probably do a transvaginal ultrasound which means they’ll want you to have an empty bladder. I would still drink a good 3 or 4 glasses an hour before just in case they do want to do an abdominal for shots of your uterus and ovaries from a different perspective.
Going into my first ultrasound they said they wanted to do an abdominal, but only got a few shots then had me go and empty my bladder so they could do the T/V and get better images.
Good luck and congrats!

@pittgirl4: I had my first one at 11w5d and they always have me pee before to check my urine for any infections so I had a totally empty bladder and they were able to see everything with an abdominal u/s! Congrats! You’re going to be amazed! It was the coolest experience ever to see my little ones face! Enjoy it!
