Take an advil and a Benadryl to reduce the pain and swelling.  Drink lots of water (no sugary drinks and no alcohol.)  Cranberry is okay but only if it’s sugar free and 100% cranberry juice; otherwise it’s sugar water and sugar can make a UTI more uncomfortable.

Make sure when you go to Dr ask for Prosed or AZO pills to reduce discomfort.  Prosed will make your pee blue/green and I prefer it over the nacho cheese red/orange of the AZO pills.  Plus I felt Prosed reduced spasms more.

Feel better soon.  🙁

UTI’s are the worst! Lots of water should help and the doc will give you some antibiotics that should clear it up rather quickly – just pray for no yeast infection after! Apparently I had a UTI in the first few weeks of pregnancy and had no idea…no pain…nothing! they gave me some antibiotics then i had a horrible yeast infection after i was like this is just great! went from having no pain and having to take meds to lots of pain and uncomfortableness.

Aw I’m sorry! Drinks lots and lots of water, and get some AZO pills from any drug store.

Yes, they are. 🙁 I’m sorry you’re going through this, sweetie. When my SO and I first started sleeping together, I got three in the first two months. We have since switched to condoms without spermicide, I drink tons of water, and I always pee after every single time we do and even shower if I have time. Make AZO your best friend for the next few days. I hope you feel better!

I feel for you! I got my first UTI earlier this year and then a few more after that and I was finally able to pinpoint the problem to KY. Yup. They suck, are awful, it is hard to get through the day because you can’t stop focusing on the discomfort. Just take comfort in the fact that they do happen to most women so you are not alone! I don’t remember anything in specific that I did to help alleviate the pain, I probably just popped some ibuprofen or advil, that kinda stuff. Feel better! 🙁

ETA: Oh and drink lots of water! I would also recommend cranberry juice but I don’t know if that really helps anything.

I hate them – such an awkward, awful pain!  Your meds will kick in soon.  Drink lots of water, even though you don’t want to pee, it’s better for your urinary tract.  Good luck!

Oh yeah, PP reminded me, eat yogurt while you’re on the antibiotics to cut the chance you’ll get a yeast infection from the antibiotics.  I usually ask my doctor for the prescription for Diflucan at the appointment so I can fill it if necessary rather than having to call back and wait for the nurse to call it in.

And if you’re on birth control pills remember that antibiotics can affect them so unless unless you’re TTC you need to use a backup method of birth control at least through the end of your current pack and until your BCP instructions say you’re safe (ask your pharmacist if you’re unsure.)

OMG I totally feel you. I used to get them in college all the time. One time I totally peed my pants going up the elevator to my dorm. I recommend lots of water and cranberry juice in addition to medications.

I have weird symptoms of a UTI. I never have any pain or burning. My symptoms are either a headache or no symptoms at all (and they just happen to catch it when I have to give urine for some other reason).

I’m super prone to them and have been getting them since I was really young, so I feel ya! Worst thing ever. Hot baths, advil, lots of water, and antibiotics. I really don’t like taking antibiotics if I dont have to, but I break down and take them for UTIs.
