It's so funny that you mention that orchid at the gorcery store, I was eyeing one yesterday while I picked out my produce! haha
We don't do much for Vday. He usually makes me breakfast in bed, and I make him a "fancy" dinner. My small go-to gifts for him are DVD's, any type of tools, tickets to a sporting event.
@Bostongrl25: lol, now I'm looking up orchid care and thinking this is too complicated for me, haha. I don't think we even have a window to put it near. Le sigh.
i don't think i will be getting DH a gift for V-day this year. In the past, before we married, we more just liked to use it an excuse to go out. the most i ever bought him was a card and chocolates and he has got me flowers and chocolates before - which i have always been happy with. typically it's more about going out for dinner and having a nice date night. Although i think our first V-day ever, we didn't go out, but he cooked me nice dinner at his place. And last year i did that for him. This year i am still not sure what we will do. probably go out for dinner. i do try to make V-day more special by wearing something sexy for after dinner. This year i think i will just be as cheesy as i can be and wear the red lingerie (yes red for valentine's day) that i only have worn once before on our honeymoon.
I didn't buy DH anything last year. Instead we made a nice meal together, lit the fireplace, and drank some wine. It was simple and perfect. ( I did give him a card though).
Mine takes me out to dinner as my gift and I usually gift him back with a "date". For example, I bought him tickets to see John Pinette in March this year. I'm so excited!
If we do anything, we go out for rich chocolatey desserts. And we make each other silly geeky cards from funny pictures we find on the internet.
For other occasions, we each just take note of when the other says, "I wish I had/I need a new ______," or "I'm tempted to buy _______," and then just get it on the sly.
What's he into? Valentine's day gifts are hard because you feel obligated to get something romantic, but most men want something they can use or eat or something sexy. I'm going to write a heartfelt card for under $4 haha then we're cooking dinner together.
This is our first, too. We definitely don't want to fight the crowds at a restaurant, so I'll probably just make an extra-special dinner (his favorite food?) and we'll eat by candlelight or something. and dessert.
@Moja Milosc: yeah, I was content to let the day pass, but then DH started mentioning it, and now I want to get him something. It's odd, because he's definitely the type to just let it slide, but I guess this year he wants to make it special....he likes sports, lol. I'll bug him tonight to see if there is anything little that he wants.
Gifts.com has a thing where you can put in the "type" of guy, age, holiday etc. and gives you suggestions for some unique gifts.
Don't you miss high school when you just got your boyfriend silky heart boxers and a bag of skittles and he gave you grocery store flowers in front of your friends? Ahhh.... simpler times...
i'm at a loss! not only do i have valentines day but our anniversary is sunday and his brithday is the following friday. crap!
I did buy him some brake dust remover for his wheels - exciting haha
Our first married Valentines day I bought him a watch & he got me a diamond necklace. We did go all out for it but on any other Valentines we just gift each other with the usual Valentines day stuff. We also went to a ski resort right after my husband gifted me my gifts! It was an awesome day. :-)
Here are some pictures!

& My gifts to him:

Plus I had over 30 candles lit all through the living room & on the dinning room table with super fixed! :-)
& Us hours later at the ski resort!

This is DH and my first V-day together and apparently, we are getting each other gifts, lol. We've been together for almost 6 years and I think only once did we get each other something - and that was just candy from our college's little convenience store.
We've always been saving and skimping on things like this, so I'm at a loss! I've dropped hints after he hinted about getting me something....that the lovely small orchid plants at the grocery store were very pretty. But I can't think of anything for him :( I did buy a card and could always cop-out and get him candy, but I wanted to surprise him with a little something.
What did you all get your other half for Valentine's Day? Or do you (like us usually) just consider it another day?
