@katebell17:  I barely see my fiance because we have very different schedules.  It was hard at first because I moved here to live with him, and he was gone all the time!!  So, I joined a book club, and then I joined the rugby team.  That takes up a bunch of time, and I also tutor a few kids each week.  So I don’t feel like I’m sitting around waiting for him, and we see each other about as much as we did when we were long-distance.

Are you upset because you miss him, or because you don’t have anything to do?

@katebell17:  My husband travels pretty regularly (at least 1 night a week, sometimes as many as 5 nights). At first, I used to hate it. Now, I’ve gotten used to it. I think finding some hobbies would be really helpful! Or if you don’t have a core group of friennds close by, joining some social or volunteer groups to meet people. I have friends that live all over the country, so I make phone dates with them on some nights my husband travels, so we can have an hour phone session talking about whatever the hell we want without him rolling his eyes at our girl conversations. haha

I missed him at crazy at first, but I think that’s cause I spent too much time focusing on him not being here than I did on finding things to occupy my time.

Mine is gone M-F, 48 weeks a year and I work Saturdays. This gives us ONE day together.  It’s VERY difficult and I’ve reached my breaking point.  His project lasts at least 8 more months and after that we’re going to have to have an honest conversation about the travel.  I’m going to try to make compromises on my end but I really can’t take it much longer.

I’m sure that doesn’t help! I’m sorry.  We’ve been doing this for a year and a half and have survived so far by just…. surviving.  No matter how long we skype or how often we text, its just not the same.  It does give me more time to hang out with friends and pursue my own hobbies, but it’s so darn difficult.

You’re not alone!
