bees i’ve been going to the gym pretty much 3-5 times a week with FI… we mostly lift weights bc i have a herniated disc in my lower back. But i’ve slowly and surely been increasing my cardio, and incorporating more abdominal exercises to try and support my back.
tonight i weighed myself for the first time in over a month, and i’ve lost 10 lbs!!! i can’t believe it. my clothes aren’t getting big on me or anything so i didn’t think i had lost this much…i figured it’d be like 3 lbs. but i do find that i’m more energized throughout the day, and sleeping a little better at night, so i guess i am finally starting to reap the benefits of regular exercise.
i’ve been using the gym as my coping mechanism for all the wedding stress in my life. it’s my primary motivation, i’d say.
it’s so exciting. i mean, i don’t feel like i need to lose weight for the wedding. i just wanted to tone up my arms a bit since i’m wearing strapless gown. now i won’t hae to let out my sample dress… it should it me like a glove. 🙂
so what is everyone else doing for their fitness? what’s working? what’s not? any other bees with surprise loss of weight after they stepped on the scale for the first itme in a while???

i joined the gym last year and it was the best decision. Iam so much stronger and fitter and feeling on top of the world.
It also gives me time out and it’s a great stress release.

My boyfriend and I started going to the gym 3-5 times a week too. I’m the opposite though; I do mostly cardio (30 mins on the elliptical) and have slowly started incorporating weights.
So far, I’ve lost 2lbs (we’ve been doing it for about 3 weeks) so I feel pretty bummed… but I know our diet could be better. We count calories, but we don’t necessarily eat “healthy.” (Lots of snacking at night, after dinner, is our biggest downfall.) So we just have to tighten up a little more on our diet.
My goal is 60lbs. A year ago I lost 35lbs, but have gained 15 of that back. Ugh. 🙁

I have managed to keep off 140 pounds that I lost however I wanted to bump up my workouts and exercise. I recently started going to Power Fit which is ridiculously intense sometimes and down right brutal but gives results. During I want to quit and cry but after I feel amazing. I have been doing it for two weeks and my jeans are already looser, my stomach tighter. I am not concerned with the pounds…I just want to try and tighten up.

I’ve been working out 5 days a week – mostly at the gym but try to road run 1-2 times a week (harder with the rain). I’ve been really pushing myself on the cardio, upping resistance, etc. Also started Yoga once a week this week.
I work leg machines every other day, arms the other days (both machines and free weights), crunches every day. At the 4 week mark, I’m going to change machines/weights.
I think my biggest challenge is portion control and eating. I am a foodie and I LOVE to eat, bake, cook, etc. I’ve been better about counting calories and not eating after 9PM but it can be really hard! We’re also big hockey fans and for the first time tonight, I made our dinner to bring with us (sandwiches, snacks, etc) to the arena.
It’s been 3 weeks and I’ve only lost 4lbs (trying to lose 15) so far but I’m feeling encouraged (the first 2 weeks included both our birthdays/celebrations). I know that I’m gaining muscle and getting stronger. Still not sleeping that well but I think that’s mainly due to the poor mattress =(
Keep it up, bees, we can do it!!!!

@sharkchomp: Nighttime is hard for me too! Even though I keep healthy snacks in our place (nuts, yogurt, craisins, cheese) we eat SO MANY snacks at night.
I’m trying to force myself not to eat anything after 9pm, and if I feel hungry, I drink a lot of water. So far, it’s worked 2 out of the 4 nights I’ve tried enforcing it, lol.

I also find myself craving a coke (in a can, always, unless it’s Mexican coke!) every few days but then I’ll drink sparking water and the craving goes away =)

I joined the gym the middle of last year and lost about 8 pounds, I’m not overweight so I think it’s harder to loose those few pounds that you want 🙁 but then over christmas I put on a few so I’m currently on a diet and gyming it every other day and have lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks.
I tend to go on the crosstrainer for about 30 mins and I burn 400 calories in that time and then I do weights for my arms, I was doing a circuit class once a week before christmas ( that I hate haha) so I need to get back into that because it was amazing for fat burning!
Has anyone got any info about gaining muscle weight, because I feel stronger and I have noticed with my clothes that I have lost weight but on the scales its a different story?
Thanks Bees :]

@LadyMoriarty: getting rid of the “unhealthy” items was the hardest thing for me. but it has turned into the best thing also. i’ve been packing fruits and veggies in little snack bags to tak eto work with me. It helps bc when i’m craving something sweet, i just eat some apple slices or strawberries. If i want salty i go for the carrots or green peppers. plus i’ve added in a TON of water. if you keep yourself feeling full on water, then you won’t want the other stuff as much. Now that we’ve cut out the crackers, chip, and cookies, we’ve started cutting out the fast food. We pretty much eat out every single night, so I make it a point to order based on what will be better for me rather than what i’m craving. I’m a big foodie too. It’s tough, but hang in there. Once you’ve changd your eating habits into healthier options, you won’t crave the other stuff as much or as often.

@MissLittleChicken: your muscle weighs more than your fat…. have you measured yourself. you might feel like you see more results this way. plus, how do you feel??? now that i’m working out alot, if i skip a few days i ster getting sluggish and tired. yesterday i had a headache and 15 minutes into my workout i felt a million times better!!!

I’ve been working out hard (for me) too! For the last 3 weeks. I bought weights and have been using a combination of a fitness routine off of the Glamour website (of all places) and some ab exercises, and walking to school or cross-country skiing every day that I can. I work out about 5 days a week, and already I have nice muscles in my arms, my arm flab is almost gone, and my tummy is flatter! Soooo happy about the tummy getting smaller! I measured my waist last week and it had shrunk by half an inch. Hopefully it’s even a little smaller now. We don’t have a scale though so I have no idea if I’ve lost weight. I don’t actually care about losing weight– I just want to lose size on my arms, waist, and hips.
Yay for exercise! It helps me with waiting and grad school stress.
