This should probably be in the Fitness Forum, but I was wondering if any July brides would be "in" to stick together from today onto our July wedding dates. Anyone with goals to lose weight, get more fit, live more healthily until our big days and wants a spot to come for motivation....could this be the place?

I am taking photos of myself today (for my own accountability) in a Sports Bra and shorts, will do it again March 1st, May 1st and July 1st!

My goal is to run three races this year, an 8k (in May) and two 10k's (in late July and October, 10k is my distance!) and do so healthily and without injuries! I start physio again Monday, and am going to STOP using my busy life as my excuse, it's a great excuse, but I am so done! I miss being happy with my body and think getting married is wonderful motivation to get back at it!

    Anyone else?

    @RingPup:

Hey, I'm in! I felt like you were talking right to me :) Well, everything except the photo in sports bra & shorts... I'm too chicken for that!

A bit about me... my favourite sport is indoor rockclimbing, but since I moved to Thailand 15 months ago,  that hasn't been possible (no climbing gyms in my city). The occasional outdoor climb is about all I can manage, which involves a whole day trip (ie. time I don't have!) so all my nice toned muscles have gone to flab :(

I'm a terrific procrastinator and horribly undisciplined - yep, great combination! I've started the couch to 5k at least six times and never made it to 5k... barely got off the couch, really! This is a great shame as the school I teach at has its own workout and weights room, and I really should be using it more often than *cough* once a month.

I have a 5k run I want to do in February, and then... I guess I'll have to find something else.

The other thing I should be doing more often is pilates. I've had hip problems in the past because of weak core muscles.

So, goals? ... I'll start with Couch to 5k twice a week for the month of Jan, plus two sessions of pilates a week. It's not much but it should get me off my butt! Thanks, RingPup, for starting this thread!

I'm a June bride but I want to join! I did so well at the beginning of 2010, but then I got busy with school and slacked off the second half of the year.

I do the AIDS Walk 5k every year, and I'd really like to be able to run it this year. It's in March so I have a couple months to get back in the groove. I'm hoping to go to the Y at least 3 times a week and I've started tracking my calories again, which isn't really a diet but it helps me from going crazy and accidentally consuming 2500 calories a day.

i'm already on the weight loss plan ladies! i bought my dress at a sample sale in july and just tried it on again last week and it's very, um, shall we say, snug?!?! i have somehow managed to gain weight since i bought it :( :(.

but i've been hitting the gym regularly since the beginning of december and am watching what i eat, and have already lost a few lbs. my goal is to get to the gym 3x week, and i'm going to invest in some resistance bands to do strength training and muscle toning at home (need to get rid of these flabby arms stat!). i'm also going to go for at least a 15 min walk during my lunch break (weather permitting) on my days off from the gym. if i can lose another 10-15lbs total between now and mid June, that would be great. my stretch goal is 25lbs. i think looking good in this dress is the biggest motivator for me at the moment, but i need all i can get!

let's do it ladies! and please share tips for staying on track.... evil in the form of candy and junk food lurks in my office allll the time!

due to unforseen circumstances e are pushing our wedding back:(

but if you dont mind id stilllike to join?

    i need to lose between 25 - 30pounds :S god help me!!

im so lazy about it... diet started on the 1st of january, i am also giving up smoking.... and so far so good!! im terrified of piling on the pounds though, i just want to be healthy and not feel like a pig constantly.

obviously since ive been smoking my breathing isnt great to say the least and im out of breath if i push myself any bit, but hopefully thats all about to change!! im doing good with fod but i must say, im starving alot of the time!! i think it'll just take me some time to realize i cant have cheese burgers and fries whenever i want:S

my goal is to eat healthy, walk/jog for 1.5hours each week and swim for an hour per week.... is that enough to get me going?

its the first time ive ever been serious about losing weight and id love to have 10 pounds lost by valentines day, is it possible?

i think il take pictures too, once i can see the results i might be more motivated i think, i hope anyway:P

I'm in!  I started doing the Jillian Michaels online circuit training at home and have lost 8 lbs, (I haven't wanted to look and see if the holidays sabotaged that.  I'm scared.)  I'm trying not to be a slave to the scale.  But I'd like to lose 25-30 total, so I got a little wasy to go.  I'm trying to focus on eating better and being healthier in general.

I have been sluggish lately and missed working out for a couple of days.  Maybe trying to catch up with sleep after the New Year's celebration.  This morning, I got back on the bandwagon and got my work out in and I'm feeling good.  Off to work.

I've been a lazy bum myself.  I would love to lose 20 to 25 pounds before July.  I'm having a horrible time time giving up candy and pop.  I am doing way better with proportion size and snacking though.  It has been very stressful the last few years and the stress seems to keep on coming.  So I tend to want to eat the sugar.  I should do the picture thing, because I forget what I look like all of the time.  I'm in!!!

You sound like you're well on the way!

Just wondering what you're doing for your arms... or if anyone else has any advice? That's my weak spot... to tone up flab without getting any bigger. I already have climber's shoulders :(

Ok ladies, today was Three King's Day and the official end to our holidays.  We're Puerto Rican and we try to do something small for Three King's to keep tradition.  Well, fell off the band wagon with the chocolates we gave each other as gifts.  Back to working out in the morning.

I am 100% in! I wanted to start on January 2nd, but I got the flu and have been laid up in bed all week so no gym for me :(

I have started watching what I eat the last couple of days, and will carry on with that. I would also like to hit the gym...hard. 4 to 5 times a week would be ideal. I can't start till Monday though because I am still so fatigued from the flu. My goal is to lose 20 lbs by the wedding. Ideally if I can drop 13lbs or so by April 1st which is my first fitting then I should be in business!

I plan focus almost exclusively on classes. I love spin, so I am aiming to do that 2-3 times a week and supplement with Pilates and cardio kick boxing.

Awesome thread!! I really want to lose some pounds and was grossed out when I took my before photos!!! I'm leaving them on the digital camera, but will retake them every month.

With the first of the year I started my low-carb diet, but I have edited it to fit in my life style, I work full time and go to school at night so I need easy. I am allowing myself cereal and popcorn, as well as dairy and protein. So far so good!

My finance and I try to go to the gym 4 times a week, and run 3 miles for 3 of those times.

It would be great to use this thread to discuss our troubles. I get very frustrated because it seems my finance has much better progress than I do so I get frustrated easily.

Thank you for starting this and good luck to everyone!!!

@Owlie: Sad to say but I do have the shake wake, and although I haven't been using it since I have been running. I feel like running helps tone everything. But the shake weight can be used when doing a machine like the eliptical? Thats at least what I used to do

    I love this ladies!!

Yesterday was the 6 months until the wedding mark -oh my!!!

After going to physio on the 3rd, I am on a no work out rule until she gives me the go-ahead. I am doing stretches and will slowly come back into my full cardio stuff when I am healthy enough! Might delay my goals slightly, but nothing I am going to worry about as there is lots I can do until I can get back to the cardio that is only going to help me/my training and stay injury free!! I am at physio 3x a week for the next month, massage 1x a week, and we will slowly bring that cardio back into my life!

I don't have any weight loss goals as I weigh less when I do nothing (I am 5'9'', 140lbs when lazy, about 150lbs when in shape) just "get fit" goals so I am happy with my body again.

carriejuly- do you and your FI work out together or just go together? My FI has a strict don't work out together rule, there can be less comparision then and in terms of him seeing better progess -use that as motivation, but regardless, know whatever you are doing is a positive for you, and your body!!!

@RingPup: We do work out together because my finance often loses motivation so our task is to make each other go to the gym, and other than seeing him lose more weight, we help each other push hard which is nice.

Thanks for the type though, good luck with the therapy although it must be frustrating not to be able to workout.

I don't feel a difference, although I can run better.... I am having really bad self esteem at the moment because I feel like everyone around me is losing weight. I'm trying to keep on the low-carb diet... I'm just going to try and stay at it for a month. If I don't see progress I have no plan yet, bit I will change something.

    @carriejuly:

Oh wow, shake weight... I'd never even heard of that, and had to google it. (I do live in Thailand!) I think I'm going to need a more low-tech solution :)

Having said that, I did get in a really good session of rockclimbing on the weekend, which surely has to be two sets worth of pilates, and I stuck with the couch to 5k programme last week too (still on couch, though).

This week's going to be tough. I'm directing the school play and our rehearsals (three times a week) just started. I'm exhausted!

How do you make yourself workout when you REALLY don't want to?

So I went to th egym last night for the first time in three months and did an hour of crazy spinning. It was good but I am exhausted today. Will be going again tonight, also to spin but this is a much gentler teacher so hopefully it will hurt less.

Taking a nice hot shower right after helps, but really the ost important thing is to stretch properl both before an after. It is normal to be sore after working out especially as you haven't done it and are completely out of shape. You have to keep going and it will get better soon. If you keep leaving a week or two in between workouts you are prolonging the soreness.

@plantains thanks for the advice:) im currently trying to swim 2-3 ties a week and in another week hopefully il hit the gym too, i just need to develop my lungs a bit more first without wanting to die after 5mins of walking haha... ive noticed an improvement in my breathing when i swim so hopefully it will help for when i start to work out properly.... i plan on starting the couch to 5k so we'll see how it goes:)

I'm to chicken to run! This week getting back on track for eating right drinking 10 glasses of water a day. Taking the dog for long walks. I'm a cold weather chicken and my work schedule 46-60 hours a week doesn't allow for the gym but in Tucson It should be warm soon I  only have ten pounds to loose I can do this slowly.

I totally fell off the wagon girls!!!  I don't think I've worked out since my last post that I was working out.  Blues hit me hard, not sure what is up.  I'm going out of town this weekend, but someone please give me a big nudge after the weekend to get me moving again.  I'm hoping that the weekend getaway will recenter me.  I think exercising will help my mood, but my mood is seriously blocking me from exercising.

@rbauzo: This is a big NUDGE :) How did the weekend go? Sorry you've had the blues lately, but you've got to get back on the wagon... you really will feel a lot better! From my last post where I said "How do you make yourself work out when you really don't want to?" - I now really look forward to my next session because I just feel so GOOD afterwards... like more oxygen is going through my system or something. Totally unscientific for sure, but you get the idea :)

I'm usually horrible in motivation. This is the fifth time (if not more) I've tried the couch to 5k, and this is the first time I got past couch!

But, after hauling my butt off said couch, I AM enjoying it. I hope you stick with it too!

Thank you!!  Getting my butt up to do some exercise right now!!!  I almost skipped again.  My FI offered to run some of my errands so I could go exercise!  Feeling better after my weekend, just playing catch up now.  But I'm going to squeeze in a workout now.  Yay!!!

@rbauzo: Aww, sorry to hear about your climbing partner piking out. I hate looking forward to a good climb and then not getting to go! Do you do indoors or outdoors?

We went climbing yesterday at a buttress called Crazy Horse. I did a "chimney" for the first time and now my butt is killing me! Sorry, TMI :)

Also managed to rip open my ring finger when I lost my foothold and fell off what I thought was a sure thing... so my e-ring is currerntly being replaced by a bandaid :D

Congrats everyone for sticking with it, and misspandy I know its annoying, but you probably just gained some muscle, and yo can really transform your body by switching all your fat into muscle which would cause you to weigh more but look great!

The scale can be deceiving a times so just stick with it, and congrats on going 6 times that is impressive!!

So I have a weird question, I am trying to diet and reduce how much diet soda I drink, but it is really hard!!! I was wondering if it would be smarter to focus on the diet first and after I get a handle on that reduce how much soda I drink?

    What do you girls think?

    @misspandy:

Don't worry about being up a pound. I don't think you have gained muscle yet as that can take a while, but it is more likely to be your muscles retaining water. Give it a couple more weeks and you will start seeing some good changes. Don't get too hung up on the scale. Try not to weigh yourself more than once a week, it can be very demoralising.
