THANK YOU! I know you've heard it a million times...but your dress was 100x more elegant and sexy than the original. How helpful of you to share.
Okay I have to try this!!! I have major back fat. And yes I am a big girl, but hey I figure I should get the dress to fit me, not the other way around.
But my question is. can a big girl pull this off?!?!?!!
I had NO idea that so many people posted about my original post until someone sent me a private message this morning. My wedding was almost two years ago so I've stopped wandering around all the wedding boards.
I'm delighted to see that people found my suggestion so useful. As for cost, I checked my wedding budget and my seamstress charged me $130 for all my alterations, which included the V in the back, the sweetheart neckline and hemming.
For any brides near Monterey, CA, Sylvia of Sylvia's Alterations did everything for me. She is my go-to seamstress for everything now. She's amazing.
Congratulations to everyone on your upcoming wedding--I've been blissfully happy for the nearly 2 years since my wedding day.

thank you! haha my bms were laughing when I kept pointing out back fat...... didn't know anyone else called it that.
Oh wow I am so glad I found this post!!!
I went to try on dresses for the first time the other day and I was mortified by my back fat. I am a thin gal but my back fat was soooo bad in the gowns I tried. My mom was shocked when she saw it too. Now I know that it's not so much of my fat per se but rather the tightness of the gown... I will keep this in mind when in search for my dress and fitting.
Phew!!!
Awesome idea! I think mine already swoops down in the back a little, but we will see when it comes in :)
Thank you so much for this post! It's funny, it's like wedding dress designers aren't even attempting at all to make it easy for us - dresses are often just not made in a way that's easy to wear, and even makes little tiny skinny-mini women look awkward at times! Thank goodness we've found a good seamstress, but still, I get nervous...any little change in my body could make such a difference in the fit!
Great solution! What you did with your dress makes it sooooo much more flattering! (Plus, it looks like you lost quite a bit of weight between the 1st pic and the 2nd pic)
I had the back of my dress lowered to a "V" and it looks sooooo much better! I mean where there's fat, there's fat, but at least it ain't bulging out like before! Thanks to this thread!! :P

I'm not sure if this helps, but if I want to save threads for later, I click on "Add this to my favourites" (In green writing under the post title). Then it shows up in a separate section under my profile, at the very bottom, under "Favourites"
Or, you could just save the url and find the thread on the internet....
