Reader’s digest version: I started a photography business, been second shooting weddings for about 1.5 years, do portrait work (mostly with a softbox), and have been putting all the money I earn back into equipment and renting what I need when I need it.
Right now I have a 5d mark II and I finally have money to buy a flash: question is which one. I have always rented the 580 EXII and been perfectly happy with it– but to be fair I’m not particularly proficient with flash (I just use it on-camera nd have never set it up for off-camera use, nor do I have any plans to do so in the near future). I can get a new 580 for $490 (includes shipping), or I can get a new 600 for $569 (includes shipping).
The price difference is low enough between the two that I’m tempted to get the 600 because I don’t want to be in a position of having to upgrade soon. But $80 is not insignificant and the research I’ve done doesn’t lead me to believe that the 600 will actually do much more for me (considering I shoot weddings and only with on-camera flash).
Does anyone out there have an opinion one way or the other? I don’t want to waste money on the 600 just to have the latest/greatest if it isn’t actually better for ME personally, but I’m just not sure if it has much more to be impressed about for what I do.
