I was thinking about getting a bunch of pairs of inexpensive flip flops for my guests to wear when dancing. But, I was wondering if they actually get used at the wedding, or if it’s not worth my time and energy.
So, married bees (or those who have seen this at weddings) – did the free flip flops at your wedding get used? Or did guests not really utilize them?

I was wondering the same thing. I’d like to think that as long as they are visible with an obvious sign, it will work out.
My cousin had free flip flops at her wedding and they were ignored because they were left under a table for most of the evening. By the time someone realized we should take it out, it just confused people because no one knew if we were allowed to take them or not. By the end of the night, a few aunts “grabbed them up” like they were free giveaways.

i just bougt about 20 pairs of flip flops from old navy on saturday ($1!!!) and I’m thinking of putting them in the rest room for the ladies if they need them.. do you think 20 is enough for a wedding of 300? I’m hoping they’ll get used!

I had about 60 pairs at the beginning and had about 3 pairs (2 mens 11’s and 1 ladies 5) left over. So, people definitely took them.
Of course, I had a lakeside, daytime wedding, so some people just decided they would switch so they didn’t have to walk around a field and in the sand in good shoes. I’m not sure how it would go over for an indoor wedding. I don’t know if people would take them just for dancing. Most people just take their shoes off.

Thanks for all the feedback! Keep it coming!
We’re having an indoor cocktail reception – so the whole thing will only last about 4 hours. So, on the one hand I thought people’s feet might be okay in their fancy shoes for 4 hours, but on the other hand i know how many of my fancy shoes make my feet cry . . .

I think they’d be fun for something that was outdoors. (As walking around on bare ground might hurt your feet, or at least get them dirty.) Also, people might be a little more casual.
For an indoor reception, I doubt, as a guest I’d bother with flip flops. If my feet hurt that badly, I’d just take off my shoes. And if anyone is wearing stockings, they wouldn’t want to wear them anyway.
But this is coming from someone who has never been to a wedding that had flip flops for guests. So I’m entering the great unknown here.

I went to a wedding with flip flops and they were a HUGE hit. It was an indoor wedding with a swing dance band so people of all ages were dancing up a storm all night. I am planning on buying ~40 pairs for my wedding of 200 guests which is outdoors.

@lclinton, if I bought them, I was planning to put a sign like “Some help from the Mr. and Mrs. so you can dance until the sun comes up”

I’ve been wondering the same thing! I took advantage of the Old Navy sale last weekend and bought 60 pairs for our wedding of 120 people. Our reception site is indoors but on the beach so I’m hoping people will grab a pair.

If you plan on having a fun wedding with a great band or DJ, invest in the flip flops!!! I went to a wedding once where we danced all night and the girls made a B-line to the ladies room to throw on flip flops for the aching feet.
I’m expecting about 200 guests. Half will be women and most of the older women wear pantyhose so they won’t wear the flip flops. I ordered 50 pairs for them (mostly size 7 and 8 and some 6 and 9 and one size 10) As we get closer to the wedding, if I feel like I may need more, I’ll grab another 10 or 15 pairs.

I want to do flip flop basket too. Still not sure how many to get either. We will be having around 200-225 people. If anyone has any good places to get inexpensive flip flops other than Old Navy, please post!
