so, I wanted fireworks, but they are pricey! Alternatively, I thought a floating lantern release might be nice. But is it “weird”? I know several people do this at their weddings, but is it weird during the band’s intermission to be like “now let’s all go outside and release these lanterns…” Fireworks seem more like an entertainment thing, whereas this is more of an audience participation thing… Thoughts?

No, no, no.
They are gorgeous but so dangerous: they can kill or injure animals, cause fires, misdirect the emergency services and litter the countryside. Not worth it.

Dangerous and flat out littering.

@ferdie224: Many venues do not allow their release. Check with your site first.

I would think this is terrible for the environment…which isn’t an option in your poll so I guess I’ll just go with “this is stupid”.
I honestly don’t understand the big deal about them. I’ve seen a lot of offers on groupon and I just don’t get it.

I’d refuse to participate because of how bad it is for the environment. I feel the same way about balloon releases.
