So I'm doing a long table setup, which I love love love, but the thing I keep changing my mind on are the linens. The venue only has regular tablecloths, therefore exposing a lot of (table) leg! I want to keep those babies covered up, as well as just give the tables a more elegant, polished look but man, those linens are pricey -- prices range from $18-25/ea for plain white at the 90"x156" size! It's not exoribiant, since I only need the plain white ones (we're making our own runners), but a few hundred adds up! I've looked at some online sources, but the cost of shipping kind of negates any kind of savings I might have actually had. So...are they worth it? I feel like I just need to decide and take the plunge now before it's too late =P. And if anyone can recommend a nationwide place that is reasonably priced, I'd love that info as well! Thanks!

I had this dilema as well.  Our venue would provide table cloths that covered most of the table for free, but they didn't go all the way to the floor.  On our tight budget, I just couldn't justify spending the extra $20+/table just on table cloths.  Our event coordinator said that he didn't think it would be a huge issue since most of the time when people are viewing the tables either the chairs will be pushed in all the way, or people would be sitting down.

I'd say, if you get a great deal on them and can find the room in your budget then go for it.  If not, I don't think it's a big deal. :)

I wouldn't worry about it too much.  I will have long tables without floor-length linens.  It looks fine.  Our reception is in a restaurant, and that's just the way the tables always are.  It looks great.

Floor length linens on long tables may also be a bit impractical.  That's a lot of people sitting down and possibly tugging on it.  It doesn't take much to make a wine glass topple over.

Our long tables won't have floor length linens because it just seems impractical for the reasons bluegreenjean mentioned.  I think your money could probably be spent better elsewhere because I really don't think that many people notice the "look" of them.  But that might just be me.

Tables have legs. No big secret. Do what you feel is best!

I personally voted for yes it's worth it because I am a stickler for the aesthetic of things, and I think that floor length  but no one is going to judge your whole wedding on the length of the runners.

I personally hate the way table linens look when they do not go all the way to the floor. That is why I am going for the full length ones. If you don't care no one else will notice it is just a personal opinion.

our venue came with floor length table linens, but if it didn't, i wouldn't care. no one will care, especially if your reception isn't a black-tie event.

I would go with the short ones.  It may change the look slightly, but it wouldn't bother me, and actually the long table linens can be kind of a pain when you're sitting at the table!

    I say save your money!

I would go with the ones you can afford, no one is going to be concerned with the length of the linens, the people who are really going to remember something like that are you and maybe your hubby. Save your money for your honeymoon! Seriously, no one will notice. :) It will be beautiful.

Once the tables are filled with guests, you won't be able to tell the difference. I was also torn with this decision...and am glad I didn't splurge on the floor-length tablecloths. No one really pays attention to that, and you couldn't tell the difference in photos.

Save money where you can...this is definitely a first-round budget cut.
