I went to college near Ocala! It’s really nice, lots of big open spaces, lots of horses, lots of rich people!!

I live in Ocala. I prefer Ocala to the areas you listed because it just seems a little more progressive. BUT it’s definitely still a small town with people who have lived here for generations. Yesterday I learned that one of the top pickup lines here is, “So where did you go to high school. “

Like any place, it’s what you make of it and it’s not too far from Gainesville, Tampa, and Orlando. I like having access to the things there but not having to deal with the traffic, etc.

It depends on where in Dunnellon you live. Some areas are very nice but others aren’t. I guess it’s like that anywhere. Marion Oaks is in that general area and I hate it. It’s a huge area that was built up in the early 2000s – houses upon houses – and suffered greatly during the economic collapse. The main issue is making sure you are close to things to do and not just in a sea of houses 10 Miles in all directions.

There are some nice neighborhoods in North Inverness and the downtown area is very cute.

@FutureMrsBess:  The city Hernando or the county? I would probably pick Dunnellon over the city Hernando but that’s really a toss up. Look at Crystal River. It’s probably the most reasonable area out that direction. Citrus Springs. Dunnellon and Hernando are very rural.
