I think if people def. will need to be outside, then you should get a tent. I've been in FL in January, and it can get cold, especially at night. (is your reception at night?)
The actual ceremony is taking place at 330, lasting 20-25 minutes, then cocktail hour from 415-515 (all at same venue) and then reception lasting until 9-10. You are right... it can get really chilly. I'm hoping for no tent ... and we don't have to decide until a few days before with our caterer/coordinator being in charge. But still, I am HOPING (being delusional) that it will be super warm! because there is nothing like that warm balmy air. This is what happens when you have to get married in January (off-season for baseball)! I will just be saying hard core prayers. thanks for responding!
Yes, you would need a tent if its cold. Is your guest list finalized? Is there any way you can reduce the number of people on your list so you will fit inside and not have to worry about the expense of a tent?
The guest list is pretty much final... It's so bad but I do hope every random does not show up! That being said, I know that it is deeply important to my future parents in law that they invite these people. We shall see though! But you are right ... we will need a tent if it's chilly!
It will be pretty cool in January especially once the sun goes down! If you are anywhere near the water there will also be a breeze.
I know you said you are tight on budget, but what about a tent with some space heaters (you know the propane kind they have at restaurants?)
Our coordinator will keep an eye out on weather and then we'll definitely either need heaters &/or a tent. We are right on the Sarasota Bay... so it will have an added chill. Glad that it's not directly on the water though. I guess there's no sense in worrying until it's time. I know that no matter I what at the end of the day I get to marry him! And it's not so much that I hate tents... I just feel like I should have had it in a back yard rather than renting a gorgeous mansion and I want them to be comfortable. ahhhh thanks for all your suggestions!! I'll just pray for unseasonably warm weather:)
I would say a definite yes to a tent and some of those large heater lamps. Having lived in Florida almost my entire life, I would be freezing even at 60 degrees, especially if I'm wearing a dress.
The venue is GORGEOUS!!! I would say that a tent should be fine, Florida in that area isn't too bad...most Christmas' here I am in a t-shirt but that's the thing: it's unpredictable....mines in Feb in Tallahassee, so i feel ya! I would say what we need the most is some prayers!! Did you check the Farmers Almanac for Sarasota? They are rally accurate.
Thanks for the great advice ColleenandSean and Jennifer! i will definitely be peaking at the Farmers Almanac! Just did actually. It said it will be warmer winter than normal but the coldest around mid january. Mine is the 16th! eeek! MAJOR MEGA PRAYERS!!!: ) Also, Jennfer, i am freezing at seventy so I totally understand!
Glad to help! :) I feel ya on the unpredictability. I live in Tampa right now, but I grew up in Englewood, which is just south of Sarasota, so I know that area's weather pattern is crazy.

I am having my reception here (http://www.crosleyestate.com) on January 16, 2010. Temperature is around 50-70 degrees. originally I thought we'd have about 100 people. But the guest list is currently at 260. Which means we can't fit everyone inside and will most likely need a tent. Don't you think? I'm thinking I wouldn't be uncomfortable at 60 degrees, but at 50 I would. How about you? I'm not a huge fan of the tent because it's right on the bay and surrounded by a gorgeous vintage mansion and I don't want to take away from that beauty. Plus, a tent is a big expense for the size we are having on an already expensive venue. what to do. Thoughts? Thanks!!
