I met with a florist and she sent me a quote for my wedding. The total for my bouquets and bouts was $400 plus she added what she called a 'delivery and holiday charge' of $100... that's 20% more!

Is this normal? I really liked her until I got this quote, it just seems a little greedy to me.

My wedding is Jan. 2nd so I guess its the day AFTER a holiday. I'm pretty sure it isn't making that much of a difference and she should be happy for any jobs she gets in JANUARY!

I sent an email asking if its an option to pick up instead of the delivery charge and she said 'no'.

Should I put up with it?

Have you talked to any other florists in the area?  I guess part of whether you put up with it might depend on what kind of quotes others are providing.

No, you shouldn't put up with it!  There should be a good reason why you can't pick up the flowers.  The only reason I can think of is that the florist wants to make sure they're in perfect condition when they arrive.  See if you can sign a waiver that whatever damage they sustain after being picked up is your responsibility.  I feel like so many vendors increase their prices for weddings so extra charges like this really bug me!

I'd continue looking around and getting quotes from other florists. If she's putting pressure on you to commit, that's not a good sign. See what other people are charging, maybe you can find someone to do what you want for less! And if not, try hangling with her over the delivery price again. Tell her someone else said they could do it for $400 but without the $100 delivery charge! Ask her for her reasons for not allowing you to pick up the flowers on your own.
