You could have them carry purses/clutches, lanterns, candles, a single flower, and parasol, etc.

How about a bundle of twigs (vertical) tied with a ribbon? An led candle? Pinecones?

I am making all of my flowers out of paper…  here is what some of htem look like, still working on them…  But they are cheap, dollar store…  so just a thought. The large tissue ones will be used as hanging decorations, and the smaller ones will be used in centerpieces and i will make my bouquet out of them I believe.  (the smaller brown ones will be hung from palm trees)  they are very easy to make and extremely inexpensive.

Have you thought about silk flowers? You can buy premade silk bouquets from Michaels, and ebay, or anywhere on the web. Super cheap!

personally, i hate most flowers (only because i’m very allergic!), so instead of either sneezing and having puffy watery eyes all day (or being drowsy and drugged with meds) i opted for lanterns with candles in them (those LED candles). we’re looking at getting married outside of a barn during the sunset, so the lit lanterns will add to the atmosphere.

i’ve seen someone have their ladies carry stuffed animals, but that was a little *too* out there for me.

oh! i just remembered… the last wedding i went to was in the fall and she had her bridesmaids carry wicker baskets with fall leaves in them. i thought it was very nice. you could put anything in a basket to incorporate into your theme.
