@sugarpea:  maybe you should try meeting with a couple other florists. I’m not sure if that pricing is normal for your area but if you see other florists you’ll get a good sense of what is

@Ninteenthchance:  Yes! I thought ours might be expensive until several others in the area were around the same price.

@sugarpea:  look around, visit with several florists. Go from there. Ours was 1700 and we got less than you But some flowers were hard to find.

These prices are extremely fair!!  That’s $6.75/vase of milkglass with the carns and dusty miller.  I’m pretty sure that if you were just going to purchase 2 carnations and a few leaves of dusty miller, you would pay $3-$4 retail, so even if you were to go this route, it would only save a couple dollars, and take an hour of your time.

As far as the bouquet pricing – these quotes are CHEAP!!! 7-9 stems of peony & out-of-season lilly of the valley is at least $125 retail just as is… no bouquet.  I would expect a bridal bouquet of that size with those flowers to be near $300.  Here is a great article that explains the hidden costs of wedding bouquets

The cost for the peonies is pretty reasonable, but she is seriously screwing you on the carnations (unless that’s also the charge for the milk bottles?)

I’d get another estimate!

@sugarpea:  yeah, some of those prices are crazy.  how big of a bouquet are you getting?  that will dictate the price for that.

i would seriously check other florists.

when i got my flowers for my wedding, i had a list of what i wanted/needed and my budget.  i had an idea of how much i would spend for each item.  i handed it to the florist and asked, “can you do this for this amount including tax?”  there was no negotiating.  it’s either yes or no.

i am not sure how close you are to costco, but i have heard some good things about their flowers and they are very reasonably priced.  they may deliver too.  also, some grocery stores have a good floral department.  i have ordered a large quantity of loose flowers from there when i was planning a big birthday bash.

@sugarpea:  it does seem about right especially with the peonies and roses, I’m from ontario too and my quotes have been similar. That said, ask her if she can suggest some cheaper flowers that will give you a similar look. Or use more greenery? You can also order flowers wholesale from costco if that’s an option. Good luck!

@sugarpea:  i got individual spider mums from the grocery store and they were cheaper than stems of carnations at the florist.

@sugarpea:  yeah I bet!!! Maybe if the other shops are similar in price though you can ask them to beat the others prices? I don’t know,  just a thought!!!
