I've never heard this (and I spend a lot of time on Weddingbee, so you'd think I would have heard!). I think the reasons against it are mostly that it takes like 30 seconds, tops, for the ring bearer and flower girl to process, so it's not enough time to play a whole song. Usually the FG and RB process to whatever the bridesmaids process to, because logistically it's easier that way (and less work for you to pick out songs).
If you wanted a song for them especially though, you should pick something in keeping with your other wedding music. If you're having all classical music, it should be a classical song, or all modern music, then a modern song. I would imagine something dainty about flowers would do the trick, though I can't think of a specific song off the top of my head. Or you could pick something instrumental and fade it into the processional music for the bridesmaids.

I've heard that you should have a seperate song for the flower girl and ring bearer to walk down to. I know that it's my wedding and I can do what I wish but I'm wondering if this is a common thing. Has anyone heard of this? Also, any suggestions for a song?
