One thing I know for sure is that sugar flowers are more expensive than real - and you pay the baker for them instead of the florist! It sounds to me like the pesticide thing is kind of an excuse for this baker getting themselves the extra income.
That's what I thought at first until she quoted me the price of her sugar flowers. They would be cheaper than the fresh from the florist.

I went for a tasting for my cake and LOVED this baker's cake. However, I was planning on having real flowers on my cake. This particular baker refuses to use real flowers because of pesticides and other things that could be on them. She says its not sanitary. I had never thought of this (no other bakers mentioned this) and have never heard of anyone getting sick from a cake with real flowers. Is this a legitimate concern? Do you think sugar flowers look as nice as real?
