Originally I had the idea of doing simple calla lily bouquets for my wedding party, 5 to 7 stems tied with a ribbon. Since then I came up with a new idea that both my FH and I both love. We are having our ceremony at sunrise, it will still be twilight when we start the ceremony and so it won’t be fully light out. My idea is to get candles and put them in holders with hurricane enclosures (so they don’t drip & the wind won’t be an issue). Then having each bridesmaid & groomsman carry a candle instead of flowers. This way we would be illuminated by candles during the ceremony. Half of the wedding party loves this idea, the other half isn’t so sure. All have agreed they would do it if that’s what we want. Some people have said that the candles aren’t a good idea and that everything will look weird without the girls having flowers, especially in pictures. So I figured I would take a vote.
Edit: Oh guess I should have mentioned that we aren’t planning on having a flower girl. If we did I would still just have her throw petals. I have also thought of putting them in a full holder (like pictured) so as long as they are kept up right dripping wax shouldn’t be an issue. I am actually thinking if I got the candle pictured I would burn them before till they were only half full for the ceremony, to make them safer.

I am not sure I would give a flower girl a candle to carry, doesn’t sound the safest thing. But if would be cool for the BMs and GMs. You might think about battery operated ones.

I think that is a beautiful and unique idea! If you are worried about pictures, dress up your hurricanes with some long strands of beads hanging from the bottom or something to that effect so that it will be a bit more ornate and more easily identified as a bouquet replacement.

I really love the idea of this, I think it would be gorgeous! But I can understand what they mean about the flower girl… maybe give her some flowers to throw instead? Although I think that depends on how old she is. And if they still aren’t all about the idea, think about adding flowers in some other way? Maybe attatch some to the candle holders themselves? Don’t ask me what the logistics of that would be, but in my head it looks pretty.

We used to hold candles in Catholic School mass for certain Saints days. Somebody always gets burned with dripping wax. Just a thought

Would your budget allow you to have candles for the ceremony, but then change to flowers for the photos?
I like the idea of candles, but think they would look a bit odd in photos, especially since im assuming that it would be full daylight by the time you got to having photos taken? I dont think the candles would have the same effect in daylight as what they would at sunrise/twilight.

I’m terrified of fire so I would hate to be your flower girl. But as someone just looking at them, I’d think it was very pretty.
