Soo my future mother in law who is pretty clumsy asked to take a picture with my camera today. Well, as she was pointing the camera to take the picture she dropped it, and now the lens is stuck. I am so angry she just acted like nothing happened, and barely apologized. Worst of all, in an effort to fix it I nudged the lens around, and after reading about it online am pretty sure I finished ruining it. This is a camera my dad had gotten me about 18 months ago, as a surprise. I am so mad! And I really don’t have the money to replace it. I know if I complained about it my fiance would offer to replace it, but I really don’t think that would be fair. To top it all off… The same thing happened to a camera he’d gotten her for Christmas. What would you do in my situation? Would you complain?

No, I’d keep my mouth shut. It was an accident; she didn’t intentionally break your camera. It sucks, but I’d just start saving up for a new one.

I wouldn’t complain to Fiance, but I would casually mention it to him. Also, you could see if the guarantee/warantee is still valid. With my camera my warantee was good for 2 years. If not, maybe there is a camera shop in your area that can fix it on the cheap.

I would have mention then and there that she broke my camera. I do think she owes you an apology even though it was a mistake. However I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it,and if your Fi can afford to replace it and you can’t then I say let him and make sure to get insurance on this next camera.

The thing is, you shouldn’t even have to complain about it. She knew she broke it so she should offer to replace it. I didn’t think it’s fair that you have to replace it yourself when you did nothing wrong (I know you said you screwed up the lens but you wouldn’t of done that if she didn’t drop it). If it were me, I would expect my Mother-In-Law to pay for it but she wold know to do that anyway without having to be asked. Shitty situation, for sure.

Agree. She should have offered to pay for it’s repair/replacement but since she didn’t, it’s probably better to let it go. It would just be really awkward to have to ask for money. So sorry. : /
