@Meant2Bee:  After reading the lyrics, I agree it’s a bit strange, but I personally don’t think it matters.  However, I rarely listen to lyrics and I’m usually more interested in the song/beat and how fun it is to dance to.  Maybe your FI isn’t really paying attention to the lyrics?

@Meant2Bee:  Nope, it’s not just you. I think that’s a very odd choice of songs…it just seems kind of suggestive. Perhaps you can make some suggestions or point her in the direction of a list of popular mother and son dance songs?

LOL I am sorry but I would never dance with a parent to this song! Some people aren’t lyric’s focused but I would definitely hear every word in that and be like what the what!

Shit I won’t even dance with a family member to sexy back.

@Meant2Bee:   That’s really creepy, I can see why you’re upset.

I don’t think it matters. It seems like its about a party, a good night – which is what the wedding is pretty much.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard that song…not the type of music I listen to.  The first few lines, I thought, “Okay, that’s not so bad…she is just wanting to get the reception party started.”  Then it got to the part about “Let’s start it off sexy” and it was like, “Um……weird.”  It just proceeded to get worse from there.  DEFINITELY not a mother/son dance type of song.  EW!  It’s sad that you even have to tell her that.

Maybe have DH think of a couple songs you BOTH like, and have him approach her with, “I was thinking of (song) or (song) for our mother/son dance.  What do you think?”  Just let her choose between a couple appropriate songs and have that be that. I mean, does he really want to dance with his MOTHER to the song she chose?

@Meant2Bee:  That’s a good point, so maybe bring it up to your FI that way?  I think there are probably better songs out there.

Honestly, if the relationship between you and your FMIL is already a bit strained, I’d let it go. You dont have to dance to it, she does…so she’s the one who will look slightly foolish. I think it’ll be pretty obvious you didn’t pick the song. I just think it’s not worth the fight.

@Meant2Bee:  It’s weird. I agree that people will listen to the words during the dance, especially if they are trying to figure out why they chose that song.

I’m on the other end of this. My FMIL picked out the sappiest song ever and it’s not even pretty. But whatever.

I’ve never heard that song before so I just looked it up on youtube… I would be SO weirded out if that played during the mother/son dance at a wedding. The entire feel of the song is just inappropriate and creepy for a mother/son dance IMO.
