Pick a theme and roll with it if you want. I like mexican. it's the easiest food to make. Your mom can make a platter of tamales or enchiladas, chip and dip (rotel!!!), salsa, guacamole, the list goes on.
As far as typical food, it's been different for EVERY shower i've been to!
Well, I love mexican too. But we were thinking of lighter foods. Maybe appetizers and stuff like that.
get a lot of little finger foods going! you can never go wrong with those! wingettes, mini quiche, finger sandwiches, pigs ina blankets, etc. if you get a lot and give variety, people will be happy.
cherry tomato, basil and Mozzarella skewers marinated in some balsamic vinegar are one of my party app go-tos... light, refreshing, and very easy to make
Cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto is also a favorite.
My big crowd pleaser is dates stuffed with goat cheese-- absolutely delicious. Just take the pits out of the dates then spoon in some goat cheese!
All 3 of these are insanely quick and easy to make.
What about:
Chicken salad plus croissants
Smokies (always popular around here)
Fruit dip+ sliced fruit (fruit dip: cream cheese, vanilla extract, brown sugar! even marshmallow fluff is good, too)
Roll ups (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/PHILLY-Make-Ahead-Spinach-Phyllo-Roll-Ups/Detail.aspx you can make ahead and bake. we had these with chicken at a party. i think they used croissant dough though. same idea. delish)
All recipes has an Appetizer Party collection: http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Meal-Ideas-Appetizer-Party/Detail.aspx
Oh wow, I hadn't checked back the post- oops! I love all of the ideas, thanks so much! I'm gonna tell my mom, I'll help her out this time around.... I'm hungry now :(
But, what are smokies?? Those sausage thingys?
Whatever you do- I think you should do it in addition to that chocolate fountain and champagne you mentioned ;) yum!
Bacon wrapped chicken bites on toothpicks
Tortilla roll ups (cream cheese, ranch dip mix, chopped black olives, finely chopped bell pepper & onion - mix and spread onto tortillas, you can even add sliced deli meat and/or tomato and lettuce. Chill for a couple hours, slice and serve.)
Chips w/ dip. I love cream cheese blended with rotel.
Spinach artichoke dip w/toasted pita triangles
Smoked salmon w/ dill dip
Cold veggie tray w/dip (try crinkle cut raw squash, zuccini, carrot, and cucumber)
Cheese platter

So, my Mother is throwing a really comfy, informal shower for me next weekend at her house. I already had a stressful one out of town, mostly for my FI's family. This one is just for about 15 of my peeps. My Mother asked what to serve for food and I drew a blank! I don't know what typical 'shower' food is. I've only been to showers are restaurants, but this will be at her home, so anything goes. I tried to convince her that all we needed was a chocolate fountain and some champagne- she didn't like the idea :)
Any (real) suggestions?
