I can say that if I was at a wedding with mexican themed food and margaritas I would be thrilled.

@TeeBee25:  I’m not one of those people that buys into the idea of the food having to “match”.

How many people are you wanting to have at the wedding?

I voted for the pasta salad, sandwiches, fruit salad, and veggies because frankly those things are a lot more low maintanence for you to deal with before the wedding. As far as I can tell, none of those things require a heat source (unless your pasta is warm), where as mexican food needs to be hot, and frankly people are more picky it.

At my wedding, I had it catered for 100 people by our favorite local restaurant for 8.50pp, and it included 2 homemade soups, tossed romaine salad w/ homemade dressing choices, turkey or ham sandwich on kaiser roll, sheet cake, and choice of beverage.

I know you are thinking of self-catering, but if you can find something as cheap as I did, it might be worth looking into. We got our great deal by asking to cater off the lunch menu for our dinner reception.

The Chicken salad and sandwiches would be alot less work but for a meal i like the mexican food idea. It’s whatever is easier for you

@TeeBee25:  Our wedding food isn’t really going to completely “match” and I think it’s fun! I like the mexican idea. I have to say, the sandwiches/fruit salad sound more like a lunch wedding – if people are drinking they’ll probably be hungry! We are going to do Indian food. We found that Indian, BBQ and mexican were the cheapest options. We went with Indian because it’s our favorite. I am totally in favor of going with a restaurant instead of a caterer – we can get a lot more food for less money and it will be better than the caterers we could afford (which were limited…). Have you thought about rentals yet? They do add up.

@TeeBee25:  Any chance that the theme could be you + your fiance’s favorite foods?  Like you could make an adorable sign that says “these are a few of my favorite things”? If it’s family only then some of them will know like “Oh yeah he loves his margaritas” or if it’s something you love, they will recognize that, too. Could be cute and then you would not have to fit things within a specific type of cuisine and it would all be food you are very experienced in making.

I would be thrilled to go to a wedding with Mexican food and margaritas! I’m kind of weird. For me, personally, I prefer to have my dinner hot. But then I prefer most of my food hot. I don’t really like pasta salads and sandwiches. So it was an easy choice for me! But I think that either would be fine. I also think that you could do the Mexican fairly easy if you get everything together the day before and then just set out the ingredients and then people can assemble on their own. I also absolutely adore cheesy queso dip – so consider that with your salsa!

@TeeBee25:  For me, that would pretty much guarantee that the wedding was a success!
