or had family members DIY their wedding cake, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see pictures and recipes if you have them.  My baby sister just got engaged (yay) and wants a December wedding (not yay...no time for her to save enough for a wedding).  She has ZERO money and my parents won't have a lot to contribue either.  The sister is also seriously unorganized and will except wedding fairies to make things magically appear....So, as you guessed it, I'm the wedding fairy.  I'm pretty handy in the kitchen, and I'm not trying to go all out and fancy on a cake, and I'll do several practice runs.  I would just like to see "real" DIY cakes and the recipes you used to make them happen.

I will say she wants me to use buttercream frosting...YAY!!!!  I really didn't want to attempt to make fondant, but I'm open to any ideas.

    Thanks so much bees!!!

I have a really good recipe for a vanilla pound cake, and a chocolate cake. Both of which my mom uses, and she has a wedding cake business! PM me, I'll send them to you when I get home :)

No pictures from me, but my main piece of advice is to invest in a good leveller. If the cake is levelled out properly, the icing sits so much better (more an issue with fondant that buttercream, but still important) and the finished product looks so profesh.

Oh, and this is probably really really obvious, but if you're making coloured buttercream, make sure your batch is large enough to do what you need, because there's no way no how you're gonna get that stuff the same colour on a second attempt!!
