@blushpinkbride:  Well… I was proposed to when I was 17. I was young and dumb and it was with my highschool boyfriend. It was what he could afford, which wasn’t a lot. I think he paid around ~$300-$400, not too sure. I tried to pawn it and they offered me $5!! Hahahahaha. I ended up selling it on ebay and got a little over $70 so I considered that a win.

^We were so young he told me to tell people it was a promise ring if they asked… and to not even announce our engagement. The whole thing felt really dumb and dodgy to me…

My actual engagement ring from the love of my life:

The diamond my xDh got me is HORRIBLE compared to what my FI got me.  The one my xDH got me is so cloudy and yellow with inclusions in it.  It was a pear, what I wanted, but that was it. He even got me a 10 year anniversary 3 stone ring to match…The jeweler told me all the diamonds were CRAP when I went to see how much I could get for them. He wouldn’t even offer me money for them.

FI got me a bigger stone and it’s an IF, clear, sparkly….it’s so much nicer and better.

The ring I have now is smaller and cost less money than my prior engagement ring, but we got a great deal on it and it’s a style totally different from my old ring.  I love wearing it so much more than my previous ring, which I was never that crazy about.

My current engagement ring was more expensive than that for my first marriage.  but I loved them both at the time.

@blushpinkbride: I dont have any pictures of my old ring but it was worth far more (monitarily speaking ;)) than my current one. That said, my ex is a douche tool and my current diamond is a family heirloom from DW’s family so I will take that any day over the bling from before (but horrible marriage)!

@PetersMrs:  Aw thank you! It’s a custom design, but the Tiffany Soleste was my inspiration for the double halos 🙂 Good eye 😉

My first ring was worth 3000, but we were both really young (I was 17, he was 19)

We broke up about 4 months later.

The ring my husband got me cost 45,000.

    So 42,000 more. haha

I don’t have any pictures anymore, but my ex husband bought my ring on clearance at a department store that was going out of business. It was seriously EVERYTHING that I hate in a ring. Yellow gold, not the “quad” setting, but with 9 invisible set princess stones with a super thick band with round and baguettes.

Picture this ring but with 9 center stones and yellow gold. I was only 19 and he was 20, but it was forshadowing to the crappy marriage we had. I sold it on Craigslist for $800 which was AMAZING because when I had it appraised to see what I could sell it for, the jeweller told me it was only worth the gold because the diamonds were such bad quality and the setting was not a very popular one.

I’m still waiting for my permanent ring from my AMAZING fiance, and it’s going to be everything I’ve ever wanted. I don’t know what my ex paid for that ring, but it was on a major clearance and money value doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s the sentimental value that’s important. My new ring will outshine the old one in EVERY aspect.

My old ring was good size (oval with side stones; about 1.5 TCW); it was a classic, beautiful ring and I loved it.  When we split, I sold the ring and put the money into our son’s college fund.   My new ring is larger (cushion halo, just under 3 TCW) and pricier, but honestly, I think it suits my hand better.   My ex-husband is a good guy so I can’t say anything bad about my former ring.  However, my FI is the love of my life and I adore the ring he gave me.

My ex-husband was very selfish and spent more money on toys than he ever did on me. My very first ring (the one he proposed with) was a 1/3ct diamond off of Ebay and he made me pay for half of it. I then paid for it to be reset into another setting that came with a matching band. The set cost me $400….the diamond off ebay was $600…so all together it was $1,000 back in 2005….later, after we were out of college and working, and after I was having issues with the setting, I upgraded my set to a .75ct ideal cut, H, VVS1 diamond and a very thick band of diamonds and sapphires (loved it at the time). Whole set was worth about $5,000 back in 2007. I never felt like he wanted to put much effort into a ring for me. I had to do it all, if I wanted a ring. After 2 years, the basterd then had an affair with a co-worker that could have been his mother…and our marrige ended). I sold the ring for $1800 at a local jewelry shop. Here is an online pic of that upgraded ring that I sold: (I wanted it to look like 3 different bands)

My current DH, who would give me the world, wanted to give me whatever I wanted. I told him that I did not need a $25,000+ ring..lol but I would like something nice from him because my ex husband could not have cared less about any of that. My DH and I have been married for almost 3 years and this is my forever set:

Yes, I know, I tend to go for the “out of the norm” styles..haha. But anywho, it is a 1ct celebration cut, G, VS2 diamond center and the whole set was $7,000ish. So it was $2,000 more…but I am not sure how to really compare that because the price of gold has gone up so much from a few years ago to now. So they might have actually been worth the same if bought within the same time period. IDK
