So I went dress shopping again today(will post pictures later). I went to this one shop because they had a particular dress that I was pretty certain was the one, so I needed to try it on. I had read some pretty concerning reviews online, but since I was going to try on, and probably not buy from them, I ignored them. Whoa boy, I probably shouldn’t have.
First of all, I don’t want someone on my tail the whole time I browse, nor do I want to be told what dresses to try on when I have already clearly told you that I do not want:Satin, mermaid, overly blingy, one shoulder, dresses. Well this lady would not leave me alone! She followed me around, kept pressuring me to try on dresses I didn’t like, and was pretty insulting when I wanted to try a sample that was a size two saying “you’ll never fit into that, if you try you’ll probably rip it”. Mind you, I’m a size 4-6, so ya know, c’mon lady.
So I’m finally in the dressing room, with thankfully only 3 or 4 dresses I hate, because she pressured me to try them(what do you know? I hated them all on!). So I go in, and she follows me in, explaining, and I quote “I don’t let anyone try on dresses by themselves, because we get a lot of hefers(her words) in here who try to cram themselves into my dresses and they rip the seams and break the zippers because they can’t just realize that they’re too fat for the dress.” I couldn’t believe it. I’d read in some of the reviews online that some ladies felt that they discriminated against plus size girls at the shop, but I figured they might have been being overly sensitive. I’m now positive that she probably said some pretty rude things to brides, and I feel awful for them. Further, while I’m not self concious in my undies, I know a lot of people would be terribly uncomfortably letting someone see them that way.
Then I ask her to measure me for the dress that I’m pretty sure I’m getting(not from her, of course), on the pretense that since I live a ways away that I might just call to order and we needed to know what size to get( but really to know the size to order when I order from ANYWHERE ELSE but here). She then goes on a 20 minute diatribe about how inconvienient it is when brides order a size larger than they need because it’s just so much work for her to take dresses in(even though they’re paying her). Also what a pain in the ass it is to hem the dresses and brides should just wear higher heels to make it easier for her.
I seriously couldn’t believe she was still in business. This lady didn’t even want me looking at the consignment dresses she had that were bigger than my size, just so she wouldn’t have to alter them down(not that I would let her). Oh, and she also refused to clip the dresses that were too big for me because she didn’t want to let anything happen to them so that she only had to give a 20% discount on the sample once it was discontinued.
Anyone else got any bridal shop horror stories?
