After seeing so many posts about engagement rings and their costs I’d like to spread some love for those of us with inexpensive or absent rings! My own ring cost a grand total of $100 (three-stone opal from Belk) and my roomate/MOH is engaged without a ring entirely.
I’ll be the first to admit that at first I did not appreciate my ring – i was going through some problems at the time – but I have since seen the error of my ways. In the end it is the love of our dear FI’s that count 🙂
So huzzah to frugal FI’s and simple rings! And huzzah to expensive rings as well! Huzzah to tattoo wedding bands and wedding watches and whatever else there is!
and because i love shameless plugging here it is:

Wow that is a beautiful ring! I’ve worn a twist tie or hair tie a few times, does that count? 😀

I have always loved opals! I can’t believe you found one for $100!! Good find!

If I did not inherit an engagement ring, I would either be wearing one that was under $100 or none at all. Seriously, do we really need engagement rings?
I find much of the boasting of karats and price on these boards to be shallow. IMHO, we should be kvelling over having found the right guy and being in the right relationships. Not sure we should be thinking more about the ring.

Agreed. I love the opals and the sides. So pretty!

I’ll probably end up with a ring that costs less than $500, which is still quite cheap, in my opinion. I would have been perfectly happy with an even cheaper one, but my BF insists that I get gold. It took me a while to talk him out of diamonds, too, even though he personally hates them! It’s still possible I’ll get a diamond, too, if he finds a good deal at a pawn shop…
But I agree. There are some GORGEOUS, incredibly blingy rings out there for much less than the standard engagement ring. I wouldn’t be opposed to something more expensive, but what’s important is that you like it, your FI can afford it, and that it’s the engagement itself rather than the ring that’s important.

Very pretty ring! Congrats!
Are you concerned if the opals will hold up to daily wear? I know they are on the softer side.

Here’s my first baby. She was around $ 400.00
I’ve since gotten a new set because the first baby needed a (very expensive!) custom made band
