I lived on Long Island for about a year, where I met my hubby and then we moved back to the midwest.

His family is there so we go visit once a year. Next year we'll have a baby, and his family's place is REALLY tiny so not only wouldn't we fit, but i'd feel a little uncomfortable there.

SO we're looking at renting an apartment in NYC for a week (cheaper than a hotel), and I've browsed craigslist a little here and there but I'm so worried about getting scammed.

Do any of you know any reputable websites where you can rent an apartment for a week for $100 or less? On craigslist I found many for $60-$100/night and that's our budget. It would be in the summer, probably July.

    Thanks bees!

Thats gonna be tough. I don't think $100 is a realstic budget, for a full week/summertime apt rental. Perhaps if you did a apartment swap, but rental IMO you have to up your budget.

I hope else someone can help you. Good luck.

@miss-spunkin: The cheapest I've ever found for a week's stay in or around NYC would be a hostel...and it was more than $100. I've never been able to find any place cheaper than $50 per day/night. Good luck in your search!

Sorry, I may have been unclear, I meant 100/night. Which I know is realistic for even a hotel because I've stayed in hotels in NYC for 100/night. So WEEKLY budget is max. $700.

If you look out in the boroughs, it might be cheaper.

The cheapest I have ever seen is $1,000 a month.

There are probably some cheap places (hotels) to stay on the island.  I remember seeing a Hampton Inn somewhere off the LIE (I think it was around Sayville).  I'm not sure if you are going into Suffolk county, though.
