We’re tossing around the idea of worshipping right after our hands are joined. We’re also tossing around different songs, Be Thou My Vision is a big contender right now. What songs are you looking at?

We’ve also been thinking about “He Reigns” by the Newsboys.

Hey Guys,

My fiance and I are both thinking about this ourselves.

I am a worship leader and and my wife to be is a great vocalist we tossed around the idea of she and I leading the worship with my band backing us up for at least the first few songs, I like the idea helenberrycrunch had about doing it after the joining of the hands. Then of course afer a few tunes, I would hand the reigns over to my best friend to continue leading us. It is very untradiaitonal. but what better way to celebrate with your friends and family. We have not decided when in the cerimony this will fall. But that is the idea.

As far as songs go, we were thinking about songs that point to Christ as the center of the marraige, I likw what marci 607 said about “center” I love that one. but the song list is still coming.

We did this at our wedding. After our vows we had our family and some close friends gather around and pray for us and then we worshipped right afterwards (we wanted it to be kind of a response to how blessed we felt in our marriage). We stayed at the front of the church (no bouquet) but faced toward the front of the church like everyone else.

As for what songs we did…..honestly, I don’t remember :-P. We’d picked three out, but gave our musicians the option to pick others if they wanted, which they did. Our original list, though, was:

– “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee” – Passion

– “Take My Life” – Chris Tomlin

– “Let Everything that has Breath Praise the Lord” – Matt Redman

We wanted joyful songs, plus we thought that having a contemporary version of a hymn would be good because most people would know it (we wanted people to worship along with us)

I have never heard of worshipping at a wedding, but I think it’s a fantastic idea! I think I would like to have it at the reception, since I plan to have music anyways, it would be so fun. So today I’ll be running this idea by my soon-to-be husband. ^_^

I’ve seen it done really well at receptions; this works esp. well if many of the people attending are not christian/do not like worshipping in public. Then they can choose to participate, or do something else like eat or use the photobooth, etc. I guess integrating it smoothly into the ceremony depends on a few factors – do you want everyone to sing along, or just a selected singer/musician to perform? Has your pastor done a ceremony before with worship incorporated? She or he might have ideas as to how to do it.

I just photographed a wedding on Saturday where the couple did this. Right after the kiss and the pronouncement as man and wife, they did a worship song. It was cool that they did it after the ceremony, singing to God as husband and wife. It was so cute!

I really want to do this and have a particular song in mind x 1 year. Both my fiance and I think we will do this after we exchange vows and maybe before kiss? I will ask my pastor. There are non believers attending, and I don’t want them to feel too uncomfortable so I figure we can all stand and whomever wants to sing can sing. Maybe the Spirit will overcome them. The song is “In Christ Alone”. I can’t wait! 🙂

One of my college friends had 3 songs in her ceremony.  They were on a powerpoint and were at different points of the service.  They chose to not do a unity candle/sand thing and instead did communion, just them and the pastor.  While they were doing that/praying afterwards, the congregation sang something.  It was very worshippful and very meaningful.
