I decided not to register for chargers because I didn't think it added anything to the particular china pattern I selected.

Our place settings were about $70 per setting, and I couldn't justify the extra $50 per charger. Maybe when things settle down a little we'll purchase matching chargers, but until then we'll just use the awesome tablecloth we got that matches our china!
Charges are really only necessary for very very formal dinners. If you like them and would like to have them, my suggestion would be to register for 4 or 6. You can always use them as serving platters for your less formal dinners.
We will be registering for China but not chargers. I already have some I found at Target...yup they're melamine...and silver so they look great with my Christmas dinnerware. If you find some you absolutely love that go perfectly with your China then I say by all means add them to the registry. But you can find them at such good deals now, and it's not like people eat off them, they are just for making your setting look pretty.
I like the idea of registering for only 4 or 6. I think I will change it to that now. Thanks!
i registered for good china but just silver chargers from crate and barrel for like $20 a plate. if i don't get them i won't be upset, but they would really look nice with my china so i'd like them. can u register for just cheaper chargers?

For those of you who registered for a 5-Piece place setting, did you also register for chargers? I currently have 12 chargers on my registry, but I'm not sure if I want to keep them on there or not. I LOVE them, but I worry about the price of an 80.00 plate. My in-laws are big on China and etiquette, so I added almost everything the registry assistant advised me on. Now I'm second guessing...
