I’m getting married in 4 weeks and have started to receive some wedding gifts in the form of checks. I know people say you should cash checks right away so as not to mess up the givers checking account, but we haven’t set up joint checking accounts yet. I am also not planning to change my name, so what do we do with checks made out to MyFirst HisFirst HisLast? I assume I can’t do anything with them personally.

If it has his name on it, I imagine there isn’t a problem here. The ones with your first name and his last name can be probably be cashed with your marriage license as identification, regardless of what you choose as your name.

I had to have him endorse the checks and have him bring his id to the bank when I made the deposit. I had to explain myself and in the end they told me they would’ve gone thru the ATM as a deposit just fine without a problem.
