OMG you can hardly see it at all! and if you hadn't pointed it out I wouldn't have even noticed! Mederma success!
wow. i always wondered about mederma. i can totally see that it really works. good for you! you cannot notice it at all :)
Wow, it works great! I can old just barely see it now that I'm looking. I should go get some Mederma, too!
I found pictures on my old phone of the scar right before I started the Mederma. I am technologically challenged but when my husband wakes up, I'll see if he can transfer them to the computer to give a better idea of what it looked like without stitches. I also will give credit to the doctor though because I told her I was getting married and she spent extra time putting the stitches in to try to close it as much as possible to minimize the scarring.
@mandb122: My daughter has a facial scar from when she was three, and she has never been interested in seeing a plastic surgeon to see how or if he could fix it. Does Mederma have anything on the instructions about when and how it is most successful? Yours looks great, so I'm wondering if its as good on old scars too.
I wish Mederma worked for me - I had a weird allergic reaction to it... so I had to stop using it. I've also got really pale, sensitive skin. Thankfully my scars on the front and back of my neck are only noticeable if I point them out (at least I hope ;) )
So glad it worked for you!
@smyley: It said it works on old scars too, you just have to use it longer. I think I had to use it for eight weeks and I think it's somewhere from ten to fourteen for old scars. I believe I put it on two to three times a day (I think it was three but it might have been two - it wouldn't hurt to use it three times).
@thewheelsonthebus: Yeah I got the cream because I read that the gel was really thick and my skin was already freaking out from the Dial antibiotic soap I had to use for a couple of weeks to clean the scar and I didn't want it to get too bad from a thick gel too.
WOW, thanks for posting this I have a scar in almost the same spot on my forehead. I wrecked my dirt bike in March and it cut my forehead badly. When my mom first saw me come out of the woods with my head pouring blood she started crying and freaking out. I thought it was because I was hurt but nope, she was upset that I would have a scar on my face in my wedding pics. So glad to know that someone had good results, I will be getting some next time im at the drug store for sure! Thanks!
OMG you cant even see it in your wedding photo. You look great btw. Thanks for the information. I always wondered if any of those creams and such worked.
It definitely works on old scars - just takes a lot longer. Mederma is amazing!
Wow it worked great for you! I would never have noticed unless you had brought it up. My mom had a thyroid tumor removed and had a huge scar across her throat, she used mederma and you can't even see it anymore. I know she was really happy with it, too!
Thanks for the post! I have a scar too, but mine is on my hand. Almost the entire underside of my right thumb is covered in a giant scar. It's from when I had to have a tumor surgically removed from my thumb when I was 12. My poor thumb is about a quarter of an inch shorter than my other thumb and most of my fingerprint is gone (weird!). I've had it for so long that I hardly even think about it anymore. Just as you said, it is totally a part of me and I wouldn't want it to disappear for anything. It is a constant reminder of how lucky I am to have had it removed so expertly and that I am no longer in pain!
I used this too on a very large scar I had on my chest from when I was 15. You can't even see it anymore. Sometimes I even have a hard time finding it.
BTW - ouch that must have hurt so bad
My sister got elbowed in the lip during cheerleading practice (and went on to cheer for the rest of the competition!!) and it hit her tooth and split about a half inch up toward her nose. She got I think 6 stitches at the ER, and luckily she got a woman doctor who knew how to do them in a way to minimize seeing the scar. Once healed, she used the generic brand of Mederma (I think found at Walmart) and now its just a tiny white line that you can barely see
Thank you for this!! I have scarring on my back from cystic acne I had a year ago (that's since cleaned up - thank God!) and I've been wondering if there's anything I can do to get rid of it before the wedding.
You're a lifesaver.
P.s. so sorry about your injury :( It looks like it was awful!
ETA: Where do you get the cream and how long does the cream take to work? I have two months till the wedding.
Kudos to you for working at a group home! I used to work at a boys group home, I was lucky enough to never get scars from the experience though, just a few black eyes and scratches. I agree with the others, if you hadn't pointed it out I wouldn't have even noticed the scar!! You look fantastic =)
@napabridekelsey: I would probably head to the store to get it. I think I just picked it up at Walmart and I used it for about 8 weeks and had this result. I probably could have gone for only six weeks but I wanted to make sure it was gone.
And I'm so glad this has helped some people.
I used it once on the back of my hand. I won't bother posting a photo, because no one but me can see the scar anymore. I think the trick is to really massage the stuff in.
This is amazing! Thanks for posting this, I have a scar on my forehead that isn't usually a big deal to me, but it makes me nervous about our wedding photos. I'm so glad it worked for you, you made such a beautiful bride!
My roommate from freshman year of college had really epic back surgery - they sliced her open pretty good and she had very big scars. She broke open these vitamin E tablets and we applied the gel to the scars. It seemed to work pretty well!
I had surgery on my foot and my doctor said to use cocoa butter lotion and to really rub it into the scar so that it would break up scar tissue as it formed.
It worked incredibly well! It's just a thin white line now. I made sure to apply it morning and night and massaged alot on at once. I highly recommend it!
@Beluga: I believe the Mederma I used had vitamin E in it.
Also, if anyone has a new scar make sure to put sunscreen on it this summer. The doctor told me that if I went outside without sunscreen (and she really recommended a hat) it could darken it a lot more.
@mspony: Thanks! The one thing everyone kept saying to me by the way was "Too bad the three hole punch didn't hit your head in a lightning shaped pattern!"

I figured I'd write this for anyone with a visible scar that they may want to minimize. I will say first though that as the wedding got closer, I got more used to my scar although I had already taken steps to lighten it. I do now think it's a part of who I am and my life story and I don't in any way say anyone needs to cover up their scars, it just took me longer to realize the true beauty of scars being a part of who you are. I also know my scar isn't the worst scar but on my pale, sensitive skin, it was very red until I used the cream. I just figured this would help anyone that may want to know about this.
Eleven months before my wedding I was at work. I work in a group home and I was working with the girls when a fight broke out. We were trying to separate them but it got bad fast and I ended up getting hit in the forehead with one of those metal three hole punches with the handle. I had to get two deep stitches and eight surface stitches Of course at the time I didn't think about it but after the stitches came out, I realized it'd now be in my wedding pictures and since it hadn't been there a long time I didn't think of it as a part of me yet. After the healing finished (about two months later), I bought some Mederma cream since it was suggested for sensitive skin.
I don't really have a good picture of the scar right before the cream but here's a picture after the injury (no makeup and swollen) as well as a close up at the wedding (a light foundation on but not much).
