Good idea for a thread! I've been thinking about this a lot lately, especially because my bf and I want a 2011 wedding! I keep thinking we should go ring shopping soon, but still haven't got around to it, and not sure how to bring it up. I'm worried my bf will go out on his own and pick a ring, and I REALLY want to pick it myself. Just because it's a lot of money to spend and I know I'm picky, so I have to like it!! I have kind of hinted at that, so I hope he knows lol. As for what I want, I haven't really looked yet, but I don't think I want a solitaire or anything too plain. I want sidestones, and a fairly larger center stone, round cut, I would like bigger than a 1ct, but that's probably not realistic in a nice quality diamond in our budget, so probably will get 1ct. I've looked online, but haven't seen anything that I really like, so I hope it will be better when I go to the stores.
Well After my bf told me he wanted a VERY short engagement.. I realized that I needed to start thinking of what I wanted.. that included the ring :D
i told him i want an antique or a replica of one if he wasn't able to find something he thinks i'd like. i sent him photos/a couple of links to styles that i like, most of which seem to fall into the art deco category. i also sent him a list of places that sell antiques, so it will be interesting to see what i actually end up with! here are a few i picked out - the first one is the one i love the most, and the others are all good second runners up :)
I gave him numerous pictures on the style of ring I want and examples of what I don't want. I think he already has the ring, so, can't really change my mind now. Just patiently waiting for the day to say YES. LOL!!!
Very pretty!!
Surprisingly, I haven't picked out a ring!lol The only time I look at them is when he brings it up, otherwise, I don't really think about it. Maybe I should start!lol
I am so darn torn on the ring thing ... I really love Miss Scissors' ring and loved it the moment I saw it so I was thinking of pointing that out to him. but as far as style goes - I've already shown him the Tiffany Setting and the Tiffany Novo

But I have this promise ring that I would like just a larger version of, too!

So I'm really torn ... and I think I might give up on giving him suggestions. Hopefully the bubblegum machine has a good selection the day he decides to propose!
I have picked out a ring at a specific store...and he knows where to get it! Its actually a family owned little jewelry store that one of my good friends has a cousin who works there and there stuff is gorgeous and very personal and everything is made to your specific needs. We went ring shopping about 3 months ago so he knew what i would want. Now its all up to him to do the rest! its a three stone princess cut and there are engravings and little diamonds on the band...GORGEOUS! I thought i wanted a princess cut solitaire...but something about it just didnt look right on my finger...i HIGHLY suggest trying a similar ring on before you get it because what you like in magazines/pictures may not be what you like on your finger!
How funny. That's one of my dream rings!!! (The pear-cut pink tourmaline halo.)
My second choice would be this one below with a light pink sapphire or morganite (which I just discovered thanks to the board):

I love cushion cut and emerald cut! anything that involves those I will be super happy!
We went shopping YESTERDAY and this is what I picked out!
KMSull congats on going ring shopping! I know you really wanted to! Its so close for you now!
THANKS! I'm pretty excited about it. It was weird, but really fun.
Yes - we've gone ring shopping together a couple times, and we have the ring all picked out. It's the Tacori 2501. It's a solitaire ring with surprise stones in the setting for the diamond. It's nothing like anything I've seen before, and I loooove it. I can't wait until it's on my finger!

@TheRen- the first one you posted is gorgeous!
@Ms.Teddy- I completely agree about trying rings on! I thought I was going to like round halos, I was wrong. I picked out the following setting. He's gotta pick out the stone though. I love cushion cut as well but it wasn't in our budget. The setting below will have about .75 carat in it. It will be a round diamond though not princess.
Yeah, I always thought I wanted a halo ring, but when I tried rings on, I decided on a solitaire!
We won't be going ring shopping because he wants to pick it out and for it to be a surprise. I have pointed out rings I like in magazines but I am not sure he'll remember those. I have sent him only one email with a ring entitled "I like this A LOT." It happened to be Mrs. Martini's ring. We'll see what he comes up with!
Yay KM, that's so exciting! You've got to post about how it went!
I haven't picked up a ring but I do have some styles I love... although I know for sure he wants to choose a ring by himself :) So I've shown him a few of my faves...
Beautiful rings! I have the diamonds for mine and he knows they exist. He doesn't know that I took them to the goldsmith and picked out a shank and a design. Not sure how to bring that up to him. Any suggestions?
Ok i love all this wishful thinking here is the ring i would love to have its a Tacori! One is for a round diamond one is for princess I love them both!
Yes I've picked mine out but I don't think I'll be getting engaged utnil maybe next year. I want this setting
with a pink sapphire or a pinkish red pear ruby. The sapphire would look like this
TheRen I loved the laurie sarah settings it gives me something else to think about thanks.
I love Mark Schneider rings. These are my favorites (especially Eve, the first one):

This is my current favorite. The first ring I ever fell in love with was the Harry Winston cushion cut ring in a halo setting that I saw in an ad- of course the fact that the diamond was enormous didn't hurt.
We've picked out this setting but the center stone will be either a cushion cut or emerald cut. I actually went with him to buy the diamond but couldn't decide which one I liked so he told me to leave and he would make the final decision. A local jeweler is replicating the Scott Kay setting so between that and not knowing which diamond he chose I'm both really nervous and really excited about it!!
Hi ladies! I'm newly waiting, but I think that the big question is coming up soon. At a New Year's Eve party, one of my close friends measured my ring finger and other little hits have been dropped. I've shown said friend "the ring" and my future Mr. knows that I like tension settings. I'm trying to balance the fine line between getting what I want and not being pushy. Here's the ring! http://www.solomonbrothers.com/Engagement-Rings-Tension-Settings#Cbh1nBGG
we have decided a ring like this is something he wants to spend his hard earned pennies on me wearing for life

A very simple slim banded platinum ring, 0.75-1.00 carat, princess cut that's ~ £3k.
He's looking around for a nice one with the best diamond he can afford. At least that's what I'm being lead to believe as to why I'm still waiting.
I have fantasy rings in my head, but I'm putting all faith in bf's hands for the actual proposal/ring. I don't have a timeplan for expecting an engagement, but maybe when he's absolutely ready to get that ball rolling, he'll ask me what ring I want. I would like to be surprised, though. I trust his tastes.
My SO and I have been ring shopping and we just couldn't find anything that really fit our styles. I was torn between a traditional Solitaire or a three stone. When we were shopping the only Solitaire I could find that I liked even a little was this Scott Kay. It's very simple and elegant.
We couldn't find a three stone in a style that I loved, I know I want a Princess cut with Trillion side stones but I'd love the side stones in Aquamarine because thats my SO birthstone (mine is Diamond, perfect right??!!!) The other picture is essentially the look I'm going for but it's got blue diamonds not Aqua.
My SO will probably have a three stone custom made by a jeweler friend of his family because I don't think he was very thrilled with the Scott Kay. Plus it will make the process of designing the ring much more fun for him!

Just wanted to see those of us who are waiting for a proposal.. what types of rings have you picked out?
Ill start I guess.. I picked out two different rings. I added two pictures of the first one and two of the second. I told him it was up to him on what color diamond he picks because I didnt want a regular diamond as my center stone.
