Hi bees. I didn’t plan my wedding around my menstrual cycle and REALLY don’t want to be uncomfortable on my wedding day (or night…I have a lot of kick ass lingerie, dammit, and that’s the only discomfort I want).
I’m on the pill and have several months supply handy thanks to moving countries and a rad doctor, so I’m wondering if I should do ye olde skip the period trick by skipping the sugar pills.
A quick online search said there are zero risks to this.
Am I being totally crazy or is anyone else gonna do this/considering doing this??
Tampons are REALLY uncomfy for me and can you imagine a pad (it would have to be a pad) on wedding day? Let alone wedding night!!! FI doesn’t mind if I’m on but my nice white lingerie will!

Do it. It’s safe, but you might get some spotting anyway. Keep a panty liner or two handy and you’ll be golden!

A lot of girls on here do it actually. I no longer get a monthly period (since the period on the pill is just withdrawal bleeding anyway and not a real period).
PS – I would skip a period or two now instead to move your cycle so you don’t risk breakthrough bleeding (it could be as heavy as a period).

I do it ALL the time. I hate my period. So I only have one every 3 months using the skip method. Doctor says there is nothing wrong with it, insurance just won’t pay for the seasonal pills. I say go for it. You’ll be glad you did.

Not crazy. I shift my period all the time anywhere from the 4-6 weeks of active pills depending on if I feel like dealing with a period yet or not. I also start my pack on Saturdays so that I only get it from tue – friday and my weekends are always period free.

Wow, thank you bees 🙂 I feel a lot less crazy! I think I definitely will. Mine, despite being on the pill forever, is always a bit unpredictable so hopefully it won’t be too early to stop this time! 3 1/2 weeks to go and it’s just finished the other day so wish me luck cutting it off early!!!
It won’t mess with effectiveness, right? We’re not quite TTC yet!!!

I do it all the time! I love the pill for that reason, as well as others!

I think you should go for it. My gyno actually recommended that I skip my sugar pills monthly (health issues) – so I think you should be okay. It’s great not having to worry about having your period, esp. while wearing an expensive white dress.

@hana.schmitt: Nope it doesn’t hurt effectiveness at all.

You might not have time to, but try it out first to see how your body responds. My body will not be deterred from having a period. When I have tried to skip I got the worst cramps of my life and spotting for a whole month. Not fun! But not everyone is like me, and it sounds like some peeps can do it successfully!

I did this last week (didn’t fully skip my period, just put it off a couple of days) and while my period didn’t come then, I got the same cramps. So just be prepared for that, and maybe carry some Midol with you.

I skipped my period for the wedding/honeymoon too. I started skipping about 3 months before the wedding to minimize the chances of breakthru bleeding. It’s totally fine!

I skip the sugar pill for 4-6months at a time. Dr recommended it due to my heavy periods and my bad reaction to Seasonique.

I’m not sure if I will get my period during my wedding. I didn’t care to schedule around it either. Sometimes my period varies each month when it starts, but IF I have my period around my wedding I will go on the pill so I don’t get my period or force it to happen on a different date by starting my pill AFTER my period.

I have been doing this for about 8 months now – and I don’t miss aunt flo one bit!!!! My obgyn said there’s absolutely no risk and she even does it herself! Warning, though, the first month I tried it I bled anyway, so be prepared in case this happens to you. By the second set of inactive pills, my period was a distant memory!! Good luck!
