This is just a vent and possibly a cry for help from those who have experienced something similar. I had my 2 right wisdom teeth extracted 2 weeks ago, the lower right being severely impacted so they only took the crown out and kept the roots for fear of permanent nerve damage. I’ve whined about it in earlier comments. 🙂
Recovery was going fairly well until today. I spent this morning at my oral surgeon’s office and this evening in the emergency room. I had one bite of scrambled egg this morning (after eating pizza and other good stuff the week prior with no problem) and all of a sudden there was searing, burning pain up my jaw toward me ear. It didn’t hurt when I poked around with my tongue or anything, it’s a down deep sort of pain. It feels like an exposed nerve or something, but I’m told that if it was, it would be a constant pain. I knew I was past the dry socket risk, but rushed to my surgeon’s office. He flushed out my gums and did find a little food debris (yuck) and noted that it was swelling a little bit and that I was close to infection so he was glad I came. He said it’s possible he may not have gotten everything out because there is only so much he can see without putting me under. So he gave me more antibiotics and more antibiotic mouth wash. He told me to use the syringe after every time I eat.
So, I had a little snack in the afternoon no problem, but then I had some leftover Thanksgiving food right after that and BAM!, more searing hot pain. I was frantically flushing out my mouth with the syringe. It lasted about 5 minutes. My Darling Husband took me to the emergency room even though I knew they wouldn’t do anything. Sure enough, I waited nearly 2 hours and they said all they could do is give me antibiotics and more pain pills, neither of which I need so I left empty handed. Then my Darling Husband picked me up some thai soup with very soft noodles. I filtered out all veggies any anything else that could lodge inside, but sure enough, the pain was back. This time for a good 15 minutes. I was crying out in pain and started sobbing like a baby. Now I’m not in pain, but can feel it threaten to come back. Darling Husband made me this gross protein shake thing just so I could actually eat something.
I have a feeling this will be my life this weekend until I can see the surgeon on Monday 🙁
